Discussion related to Wi-Fi routers/AP used with Eye-Fi Cards

Nikon d50, eyefi geo 2gb, netgear n150 access point, MacBook

Postby mnp13 » Sun Jul 01, 2012 10:20 am

I've got to make all of the above work together. This has been a nightmare.

I tried with a Belkin router working as an access point but it didn't work. So now I have the netgear access point, another netgear wireless router, and another eye-fi card that I don't think will function with my camera anyway.

I just need this to work... And I'm so frustrated and tired of it NOT working. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. There is not an internet connection where I'm doing this project so it must work without being attached to the Internet. I tried using the "not in range" check box (or whatever it's called) but that didn't work either.

What am I missing????

Thanks,

Michelle

Mac - 10.5.8
Eye-fi center - 3.4.24
Eye-fi helper - 3.4.26(3.4)

Ok I'm looking at the log from the card, excuse the paraphrase, I'm useing a different computer for this post than the one that has the log.

Log entries-
Connecting to WLAN "PitBullPhoto"
WPA installing GTK to the driver (keyidx=1 tx=0)
Done scanning for new photos. Uploads pending
Done scanning all photos. Uploads pending

So... If it's connecting, and if my computer is also connected to the same network (and it is, and it's working) why aren't they actually uploading????

Any help would be appreciated!!

Network is open, no security. Online sharing is not enabled. Eye-fi view isn't active because I don't have the upgrade.

only the x2 cards support 802.11n your 2gb geo only supports 802.11b/g so make sure you set the router up with 802.11n disabled

but first try and get the system to work on your home router with internet access the main things to make sure you avoid when attempting to get this to work without internet access is to disable all online sharing such as flickr / facebook once this has been done you should be able to disable relayed transfer another thing to watch for is any security package such as firewall blocking attempts by your eyefi card to connect to your mac (im afraid im a windows guy so i cant offer specific advice on this part) once it works on your home network simply add the portable router to your card and macbook and the transition should be seamless.

try posting a card log here and we will try and see whats happening.

1. Insert your Eye-Fi card into your camera
2. Take 5 pictures
3. Wait 5 minutes to give the photos a chance to upload
4. Remove the card from your camera *
5. Insert the Eye-Fi card into the USB card reader and into your computer
6. Click on the Eye-Fi Helper icon in the Apple Menu Bar or in the Windows Task Bar
7. Select "Get Eye-Fi card Log..." from the menu. You may have to wait several seconds, but, in a moment, you will be asked where to save the Eye-Fi card log file
8. Save the Eye-Fi card.log file to your computer hard drive and reply to this forum thread with your log file attached

Thank you! I'll give it a try as soon as I can. I started packing up, and it may be Tuesday or Wednesday before I get it all taken apart again, but I'm going to guess you hit it with the 802 thing. I'll keep you updated!!

according to the card log you have 0 configure wireless networks and at the time of the log your ap was out of range , not broadcasting its ssid or switched off. was "pitbullphoto" setup as an adhoc connection?

Yes, but then removed. I gave up, but will revisit the issue again. I do need it to work, but will have to go corded this time around.

mnp13, if you look into this again, please try again and then post the full card log. Make sure uploads are set to the Mac (http://support.eye.fi/cards/media/save-to-computer/), and the Mac is connected to the same wi-fi network as the card. Remove all other wi-fi networks from the Eye-Fi card. Shoot some JPEG photos within 5-10 feet of your network, wait a minute or two, and if you see no uploads to the Mac, please retrieve a new card log and attach it to your reply here, or email it to us at support@eye.fi so we can take a look.

ahinchcliffe, as always, thanks for helping!
