eye-fi direct to smartphone?

Postby littleroot on Tue Jul 10, 2012 10:28 am

Hi Everyone,

New user. Just registered. First post!

Am I supposed to be able to use the X2 Pro card to send images directly to my iPhone or Android smartphone without any 3rd party Wi-Fi service?

The end goal is to be out in the field where I only have cell service, snap a pic with a compatible camera, review and and email the photo from the smartphone.

Please let me know if this is possible. If have a link to detailed instructions please include. Android is preferred as our VZW Galaxy Nexus as 4G LTE.

Thanks so much! :)

yus this is possible however your phone can only connect to one network at a time this includes 3g/4g so while connected to the eyefi card your phone will assume it is a fully functioning wifi network with internet access so will disable the 3g/4g connection until the eyefi drops (once all photos have been sent to the phone) then the phone will be able to use 3g/4g again, once this happens you will be able to email your photos.

there is a work around to this if your phone is able to act as a wifi hotspot with the ability to share your 3g/4g connection. if your phone supports the hotspot feature and it works you would set it up just as your would any wifi network , activate the hot spot feature and let the eyefi card connect to it this would allow the photos to be sent to the phone without killing your phone 3g/4g connection.

however a little research doesn't bode well turns out verizons wifi tethering is not great YMMV
