Direct Mode OK but NO autosharing (to Flickr or FTP)

Postby keko on Fri Aug 17, 2012 12:59 am

5DmarkIII+Eye-FiX2Pro+iPad(wifi+3G) all with latest updates.
I got Direct Mode working at first try.
Photos get transferred to iPad and I can also share them manually to my Flickr account and FTP host.
The problem is that the photos never get shared automatically, no matter what Transfer Mode I choose (Auto, Selective Share, Selective Transfer).

I double checked settings on my desktop Mac Eye Fi Center and on the web version and all seems set fine.
Both Eye-Fi Card and iPad settings have online sharing option activated and my FTP host selected.
As a further check I tried with my iPhone 4s and the same thing happens, Direct Mode works but sharing is only manual.
Obviously I'm under 3G coverage while trying auto sharing (otherwise manual sharing wouldn't work either)

hi keko,

Please look at the Eye-Fi app icon on your iPad's home screen. Does it have a red "badge" with a number? If so, that indicates the number of pending uploads the app has to forward to your destinations, and it should decrease as it uploads. If it does not, please open the Eye-Fi app for a minute or more and then check again to see if the number decreases.

If the number is steady for a while, please exit and restart the Eye-Fi app: from the iPad home screen, double-click the iPad's Home button, tap and hold the Eye-Fi icon, and press the minus button to close the app. Open it again for another minute and then check to see if the badge number decreased. You could also try a full restart of the iPad (press+hold both home & power buttons until the Apple logo appears).

If there's no badge at all, this suggests that the iPad already forwarded any photos that you uploaded using Automatic Transfer mode (or Selective mode after protecting your photos). Please check the Eye-Fi Center program on your computer, select your card, and look for these recent uploads. Right-click some of them, choose "More Info", and view the Delivery Status. We'll tell you whether we delivered your photos to the FTP server, or if there was a problem. What do you find?

Thanks.

hi jsun,
thanks for the extensive reply but unfortunately I couldn't resolve the problem yet.
I tried many times restarting the Eye-Fi app, the iPad and any other device involved (Mac/wifi AP).

About the Eye-Fi app badge, I can only see it when I manually share the photos from the iPad and it works properly.
If I wait for the automatic sharing to start, there is no sign of activity: no badge, no blue progress bar inside the photo icons and of course nothing gets shared on FTP or Flickr.

To answer your question, opening the Eye-Fi Center on my Mac and selecting the card I can't see any new photo. (this might be useful to locate the problem?)
Only selecting the iPad icon I can see completed manual uploads and "more info" says "delivery status: completed" and "show on FTP/Flickr" (please note I'm translating from italian UI)

To simplify uploads I avoided the date generated folder names in both FTP an Flickr destinations.
Since the problem is the same on my iPhone 4S, I'm wondering if it might be something related to the latest iOS release (5.1.1) or the italian localization of the Eye-Fi app

hi keko,

I can't quite explain that one. Since you're not seeing any photos at all when you select the Eye-Fi card, it suggests that the card is not set to upload your photos online.

Please open Eye-Fi Center and make sure it's logged in to the same Eye-Fi account you are using on the iPad. Click the Eye-Fi card and then the gear icon to open the settings. Click Transfer Mode, and under Selective Transfer, make sure this is set to Automatic so all your photos will transfer. Click Photos, and choose Online. Make sure it says that all uploads are set to your FTP server. Also please choose Eye-Fi View and make sure that is enabled. Shoot some new photos and see what happens.

If that does not help, please add a wi-fi network to your card and see if new photos appear on the iPad, and/or the Eye-Fi Center program or web site.

If the photos still aren't forwarding anywhere outside the iPad, please contact us directly so we can look into this further for you.

Thanks!

hi jsun, thanks again for the answer.

Actually I tried before what you suggested but with no success.

I could resolve the problem by activating all the functions (Photo, RAW and Video uploads, Geotagging, Eye-Fi View) on both the card and the iPad. Now the iPad uploads the photos automatically, even if I don't know exactly what was the solution. Maybe activating Eye-Fi View uploading?

BTW, having no wifi network set on the card (only Direct Mode), if I set the card upload settings to Flickr and the iPad upload setting to FTP, I get the photos uploaded to Flickr as if the card option overrides the iPad one. Can you confirm this?

Thanks again

hi keko,

Glad to hear that your photos are forwarding now. It sounds like the Eye-Fi card finally learned that your online destination is enabled. The card doesn't learn about certain setting changes until it tries to upload photos over a network, so maybe that was the issue. The Geotagging, RAW or video settings shouldn't matter if you're only sending JPEG photos.

The iPad settings in Eye-Fi Center are primarily there so we know where to send pictures you take with your iPad's camera, if you have the Phone Camera setting enabled in the app. Think of the "Upload to Computer" option as an extra feature that also forwards your Eye-Fi card photos to the same computer you've chosen for your iPad camera photos.

Our system can only automatically upload your photos to the 1 online sharing site (FTP, Flickr, Picasa, etc.) you have chosen in the Eye-Fi card settings. If you want to send them to a second destination like FTP, you'll have to do that manually using the iPad app, our web site, or Eye-Fi Center.

I hope that helps explain things. If you have any other questions, please let us know!
