Problem with Folder & File Dates

Postby wdckwrth » Sat Feb 27, 2010 9:46 am

I am using Eye-Fi for iPhone and am noticing that it is no longer using the setting that I have in Eye-Fi Manager. All photos are being uploaded to a directory with the date of upload and all photos are having their date created changed to the date of upload.

In the "Date format options" group box I have selected "Add custom date format to path" and then a custom date format of "%Y-%m-%d". In the "Other date options?" group box I have selected the "Use photo creation date" option button.

The dates show up correctly in the Eye-Fi app on the iPhone and when the pictures are manually copied to a PC.

I have tried changing options in Eye-Fi Manager (e.g. the date format) and that does change the folder names but the behavior is the same.

Thanks.

I have done some more testing and may have figured out part of the problem.

It looks like pictures that were taken with the Apple Camera app upload correctly. But photos taken with Joby Gorillacam (v1.1) app do not.

Pictures taken with either app show up fine in the Apple Photo app. And can be uploaded with the Eye-Fi app. Dates on photos taken with either app appear the same.

I think this is an issue with the Eye-Fi app. Or with something that I can not see in the tags in the picture.

Thanks.

I recently got an iPhone and have noticed a similar problem. Uploads from the iPhone app to SmugMug dump the whole batch of selected photos into a folder for the upload date, regardless of the photo creation date. My cameras upload to SmugMug according to the date of capture just fine, and I'm using the same account and same settings for the iPhone. The photo capture info appears correctly in the Eye-Fi app, in the EXIF online, and in the file metadata in the local computer destination. Incidentally, the photos do get sorted correctly by capture date on my computer.

I was having a similar issue on an iPhone 3G running the latest firmware prior to iOS.

When uploading only pictures I took w/ the iPhone's built in camera app, all the photos were uploaded to a folder in Picassa web labeled w/ the date of upload, not the date the picture was taken.

I didn't check to see if the pictures had their metadata changed where the date created would be changed to date uploaded, but if so, that is seriously broken.

Not sure if it is good news or not, but since I've upgraded to iOS 4, the app no longer recognizes new pictures requiring me to manually upload pictures one at a time. Might need to go back to pixel pipe.
