Eye-Fi Direct Mode and unwanted pictures

Postby Armorgator » Tue Jul 12, 2011 12:18 pm

On my Nikon D5000, I turn off uploading. On my Computer Eye-Fi Center is NOT running. My ipad is in sleep mode and no apps running.

I take a handful of pictures, and directly and manually download the pictures from the card to my computer via SD Card Slot on my MBP.

I reformat the card for my next shoot. Turn on the iPad and launch the Eye-Fi app. And it starts downloading pictures from way back. Some 500 pictures ALL of which have never been downloaded through the Eye-Fi Center.

I go to my computer and all the pictures I took and manually downloaded are in the Eye-fi center > Eye-Fi Card . But the Center says there has been no recent activity.

So my questions are:

1. Why is the Eye-Fi Center seeing the pictures I manually downloaded.
2. I can see the previews but I can't see the photos and they all have loading bars underneath them.
3. Why is the Eye-Fi Center syncing with my iPad? Even if its not on?

hello Armorgator,

Looks like you never got an answer on this.

This probably happened because your wi-fi network was in range and Relayed Transfers was enabled on your card.

When you disable uploads in your camera, that prevents the card from making any wireless connections only temporarily, while the card is still in the camera. Unless you have set the Transfer Mode to Selective Transfer, the card will still try to upload those photos the next chance it gets. Once you move the card to a computer or another camera, the wireless radio activates again.

You have a number of options here. First, if you only want to use Direct Mode and not your wi-fi network, remove your private network from the card. If you want to leave the network on there but make sure the card only tries to upload locally, disable Relayed Transfers (under Transfer Mode in the card settings). And another option is to leave the card in the camera with uploads turned off, transfer photos to the computer over the camera's USB cable, then delete them before moving the card anywhere else.
