change card pairing settings without Internet?

when i was outside and without Internet connect
i want to change my eye-fi card upload destination from pc to ipad(wifi)
the eye-fi app shows "you must be connected to the internet to see or make changes to card pairing settings"
but i have no internet connect outside,
is there any way to use Direct mode on ipad(wifi),when i am outside and
have no internet?

This is my exact issue too. I want to transfer my pics automatically when I'm at home but on the road, I want to upload them to my iPad and iPhone (not same time) for viewing. When I return home, I want it to upload as before.

Is this possible? If any of the devs are reading this, is there a solution or a work around? I bought the card mainly with this usage scenario in mind.
