Error installing the desktop software

Postby Michael X » Tue Aug 07, 2012 5:17 am

I am having trouble installing the Windows desktop software for my Eye-Fi card. I am trying to install under Windows 7. The software downloads alright, but when it tries to install the software the installer gives me the message "Installation ended prematurely" and the software is not installed.

I tried running the installer as administrator, but this did not make a difference.

Looking in the Windows event log, the installer terminates with the error code 1603.

Please help!

hi Michael,

Sorry to hear that you receive this error when trying to install our software. After you launch setup.exe, what steps does the installer perform before giving you the fatal error? Please make sure you choose the default installation folder during setup (if you get that far). Have you changed any of Windows' default locations for folders like your system folder, temp folder, program files folder, etc.?

From what I've found online, it seems like this may be a Windows installer issue and not specific to Eye-Fi. Are you able to install anything else? Here is a page with some tips, probably pre-Windows 7 but hopefully it should still apply:

Please let us know how it goes!

I get to the "Ready to install Eye-Fi Center 3.4" step and then I press "Install". This then brings me to the "Eye-Fi Center 3.4 Setup Wizard ended prematurely" screen.

I have not changed the default Windows folders and other programs install fine. I tried following the steps on the page you linked, but this did not solve the problem either.

Sorry that didn't help. Please try to install another program and see if this succeeds.

If not, please check your Program Files (or "Program Files (x86)") folder for an "Eye-Fi" folder. What files did you find inside? Please delete that Eye-Fi folder and see if you can install now. If it still fails, please check to see if you have "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable" installed, and if so, please remove it and then try the Eye-Fi installer again.

It should not be necessary to disable any security programs to install our software, but please try that as well.

If you are still receiving errors during installation, please email us at support@eye.fi with a description of the issue, a list of the steps you've tried, and a link to this thread. It may be an OS issue, but we'll see if we can help.

Thanks!

It seems that the installation of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable was broken on the PC I was trying. I tried on a different PC and it worked fine.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the update, we're glad to hear that you were at least able to install the software on your other PC.

Great to solve this issue, I had also find this error when I was installing software with my windows but after I found that problem is not in Eye-fi card actually my operating system was not supporting it. So, you can reinstall your operating system again or you can go with program file to fix this error. Thanks Jsun to explaining id detail and helping to resolve this problem
