Not to beat a dead horse here, but is this thing going to be released any time soon?

Like, are we talking days, weeks or months?

Yeah, it would probably be good corporate strategy here to come out and tell us what is going on. People waiting for the X2 are loyal Eye-fi lovers... Just let us know what to expect, we aren't going anywhere, we just feel like we are being stood up by the hot chick on prom night!!!

Let us know!!!

I notice the "Preorder" has been removed from the Eye-Fi website.
http://www.eye.fi/products/prox2
Amazon.com still says it hasn't been released.

Amazon just shipped mine today, they must be fulfilling backorders before marking it as available.

I just got my 8 gig card, and it's saying I need a firmware update. When it goes to download the update, nothing happens. Gets a general error.
This firmware update is needed (so it says) for my 2 and 4 gig cards too. The download for these cards works FINE...
What's wrong with the 8 gig update??? is not "gettable" yet?????
Help.

Could you be a bit more specific about how the software installation is failing? Also, can you please try downloading the latest software (which is newer than the version you received on the Pro X2 card itself) from:

http://support.eye.fi/agent/download/3.0.20/Eye-Fi.dmg

and let us know if it goes any better?

We'll get you going - thanks for your patience,

Did you upgrade to the Eye-Fi Center software that came on the Pro X2 card itself or are you continuing to use the Eye-Fi Manager software because you had it installed for your other cards? Pro X2 cards are supported in and their firmwares can be upgraded with only the Eye-Fi Center software. If you've already formatted the card, you can download the software from:

http://support.eye.fi/support-resources ... -software/

Good luck,

Berend,

I think I figured out what caused the problem. I was able to install everything without any problem on my MacBook Pro that did not already have Silverlight installed. But on my Mac Pro, which already had an old version of Silverlight installed, everything went wrong until I manually installed Silverlight 3.0. Then everything went smoothly, which it continues to do. My only disappointment is that the uploads are slower than I would like, but the card is working properly.

Just got my X2 today, but it doesn’t work in my 7D. It fails to recognize the card or even format it. I’m using the green compact flash adapter that others use with success and indeed my 4GB Pro works fine and still does, so I didn’t even consider the X2 not working. I know you don’t support your cards in DSLRs that take Compact Flash and that I should know better, but it’s so frustrating because I just love these cards and the technology which I’ve not had any problems with up till now (my third Eye-Fi card). I for one will be ecstatic when Eye-Fi comes out with a CF version. For what it’s worth, the card does work in another camera that I own which takes SD cards, but I really wanted this for my 7D. I was really looking forward to the endless memory, the faster write rate, 802.11n and so forth.

Here’s to hoping there’s an easy solution, or there’s another adapter that’ll work, or Canon comes out with something. I did successfully upgrade to the latest firmware and haven’t had any trouble with the Eye-Fi Center software. I’m wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience, but found a work around. - Eric

Hey guys,

Very good I saw this topic. Finally after waiting 2 months I got the X2 card. After setting up the software and updating it to it's latest version it was time test it with 1 of my 3 camera's. First up the Canon 30d with and SD/SDHC -> CF card. Card not recognized?!?! What is this? My 2gb original eye-fi works fine, but this one doesn't :(

Now I have 2 more camera's (1d mark III and 5d mark II) to test, but after reading all this I am very disappointed. I really hope anybody has a solution for this.

I have the same problem as mentioned above. I'm on a Mac, running 10.6 on a recent MacBook. The card is recognised, I downloaded the latest version of Eye-Fi Center as requested, when Eye-Fi Center launches, it recognises the card, and asks me to upgrade the firmware to 4.1012 from 4.10.10, downloads the firmware, then tells me the upgrade has failed, and that I should restart the registration process. I've done this several times, no change. I also tried on my MacBook Air, exactly the same result. I saw the comment regarding Silverlight, installed Silverlight 3, no change.

I bought one of the very first Eye-fi cards, had a great, but short experience, then lost some one-in-a-lifetime shots when the card dies on me. It seems it was a known problem, I got a new card, but lost the photographs. I though I would try again, especially as Aperture 3 now supports Geotagging. I'm really hoping my experience os not going to the same way as it did the first time around.....

Neville,

Could you please format the card in a camera and repeat the registration process? Also, if you haven't already done so, it would help tremendously if you could open a support case by e-mailing support@eye.fi and attaching the

/Users/{username}/Library/EyeFi/EyeFi.log
/Users/{username}/Library/Preferences/fi.eye.center.E430518E652B889A80EC0E8A6E532C09FF36DF62.1/Local Store/Eye-Fi Center.log

files to that report.

Thank you in advance for your assistance and patience,

Neville,

I was able to locate your registration attempts in our server logs and it looks like the firmware downloads are consistently taking over 1 minute (for ~4 MB of data). Are you on a particularly slow Internet connection? We are looking into whether this is unexpectedly tripping a timeout, so getting a confirmation from you that the download speed may be slow would definitely help us. Also, you may be able to complete the registration including the firmware update if you can briefly be connected on a faster link.

We'll keep you posted,

Eric, Stef,

At this time, Eye-Fi's position on CF adapters remains unchanged and we do not support their use as outlined on our support site:

http://support.eye.fi/product-info/came ... -adapters/

The CF adapter compatibility situation seems to be even more of a minefield with capacities >= 8 GB. I can unofficially confirm that, for example, the Pro X2 card does work with one CF adapter in my personal Nikon D70, but your experiences seem to indicate that Canons may be unhappy (with the adapters you're using).

We'll keep you posted on any developments, but for now CF adapters remain unsupported unfortunately. :(

With apologies for the inconvenience,

Hey all,

Just found out my 1d Mark III and 5d MII are NOT compatible with the "Compact Flash Adapter for SD/SDHC/MMC" I have.
In my 1d Mark III is place for a SD card and that works just fine

I also tested the SAME adapter and card in a Nikon D60 and that just works fine?!? Go figure?

Let's all hope we can blame the adapter and find one that does work!

Maybe I'm not searching hard enough, but is the Pro X2 dual band and/or wide channel?

The Pro X2 is 2.4 GHz 802.11n only (compatible with b/g of course) and it does support 40 MHz channels.

Thanks for the information Berend. The 8GB capacity + adapter issue is something I didn’t think of, but makes sense.

If you don’t mind, can I ask which adapter you’re using with your Nikon D70? I know it’s no guarantee that whatever you’re using will work with my Canon. Also, I plan on buying just about any adapter that looks like it would have a reasonable chance at working anyway, but just the same I thought I’d ask. Thanks again, Eric

So it looks like the first batch came and went!

I ordered at Amazon, and currently it shows a shipping date of today, 22nd March, but somehow I doubt it will happen as there is no stock indicated directly at Eye-Fi.

It would be nice though if Eye-Fi staff would comment about when they expect stock to return or be at levels sufficient that you can buy it easily.

Hi Berend,

Formatting the card in camera fixed the problem. Many thanks. NOW I can get on and see the good stuff with your product - and I promise I will tell people as I do!

Did you format the card in your camera or mac/pc? Which camera do you use?

UPDATE: I tested my Compact Flash Adapter for SD/SHHC/MMC with an 8Gb Kingston SDHC card, and that just works fine.

What is the big difference with the Eye-Fi?!?!

I am experiencing the same problem as Neville except that my card is an 8GB Explore, not a Pro.
I have a DSL internet connection (0.43 MB/sec).
I sent an email to the support team.

For those using the CF adaptor, you need to use the ones with plastic sides, or remove the metal sides of the adapter. This is very easy as they're just stuck on.
It works fine with my Nikon D70, D200 and D300. All these camera's use Compact Flash 2, the Nikon D700 uses Compact Flash one so the Eye-Fi will not work with this camera.

Hi,
have someone tested the new Eye-Fi PRO X2 in a CF-Adapter with a Canon Eos 50D oder 40D?
A SanDisk 8Gb SDHC works great in my Adapter, but the PRO X2 doesn´t. I can´t format the Eye-Fi in my camera.

Hi Twain,

Same problem here. It looks like it's an Canon problem.
On Nikon there are no problems at all!
