Help troubleshooting your Eye-Fi Card

5dMkiii error 80

Postby geohar » Wed Jun 06, 2012 3:10 pm

Love the card, the tech is so cool.

I'm mostly using shutter snitch and the X2 PRO. I'm shooting s jpeg to the eye-fi and RAW to a fast Lexar CF. I'm using direct mode, but the error occurs even if the card isn't currently connected to a network and my iPad is off.

I've gotten a couple of error 80s from my 5dmkiii which are entirely new since staring to use the eye-fi card. I've discovered a very reproducible way of getting the error - if I format the eye-fi in camera (not low level). The next shot I take will usually cause an error 80. Then I have to pull the battery to clear the error.

Given the correlation between the format and the error (after that I can shoot mostly reliably again) it seems to be eye-fi related.

I'm tempted to give the beta a try, but I wanted to know if you are aware of the issue or can reproduce it yourselves.

George,

I was able to test the 5D Mark III, but even after hammering on the camera for a few days I was unable to get the error 80. Using your steps to reproduce the issue are you able to get any other card (other than Eye-Fi) to produce this error? From reading some Canon forums it seems that the error 80 happens to some and not others. I was running the latest firmware (1.1.2) and I was using all Eye-Fi card models as well as different firmwares and still no error. If it happens to be appearing on a camera by camera basis then I would assume you would be seeing this error on a non Eye-Fi card. Would you be so kind as to try and let us know?

I should be getting my hands on another 5D soon, and I will be noting the serial numbers of each camera I try, but until then it would be good to know whether the errors you are seeing are specific to your Eye-Fi card.

i read this reply and it sounded very similar to an error i got in the first couple 10 shots with the card (brand new). i believe it flashed an error 8 or error 80 on top screen. it wouldn't do anything. power on/off wouldn't reset the error. taking the card out and putting it back in helped fixed everything. but i never saw the error again. this only my second day with it though...

here's an error of the proof of this mysterious error 80. It was blinking error next in the LCD. my camera just happened to missed it as it was blinking...

no idea what caused it. it was just random. the camera locked up and only way to get it moving was to pull the batteries.

Has this issue been sorted with firmware? I too have this problem with the eye-fi card and 5D3. I stopped using the card several months ago due to the freeze-ups and the camera's been working great. Plugged the card in again and it froze up my camera with an Error 80 again.

I strongly believe the error 80 is related to the eye-fi cards. I shot several weddings with the eye-fi card and gotten like 4-5 error messages throughout the day. but the other day i forgot my eye-fi card. but i happen to have my spare SD card and i shot through the whole day without a problem.

yes, i formatted the card on the camera and with Scan Disk card format-er program

I've only had problems with pro x2 on 5d3 when the battery was low. can't reproduce until indicator is on its last digit myself. need to test out the last digit theory without the x2 in however.

I've this problem too, if the card is nearly full, it's always happen even I save as smaill jpg.
To solve this problem, please low level format the card every time you use.
I hope the new firmware of eye-fi will solve this problem
