Google Nexus 7 crashes - Please support this tablet!

Postby Sethster » Mon Jul 23, 2012 8:51 am

Google Nexus 7: Eye-Fi crashes before loading. Here's the message :"Unfortunately, Eye-Fi has stopped" I am running the stock OS 4.1.1. I do not see a the "avoid poor connection" option that is present in the Galaxy Nexus phone. That option is not present in the advanced WiFi section of the Nexus 7.

Thank you.

i've been telling them this will be a major problem as more and more people get Jelly Bean on their android smartphones and tablets. I hope they'll listen. unless they saw my other previous post like you have done, i dont think anyone would have figured it out. they gotta release a new firmware and app update....

Sethster,

You are correct that the Nexus 7 does not have the same "avoid poor connections" option in the advanced Wi-Fi settings that the Galaxy Nexus has. I have personally tested Direct Mode to a Nexus 7 and have not had the same issues.

Could you please attach a device log from your Nexus 7 to this thread so that our engineers can take a look? To do this:

1. Search the Google Play Store for aLogcat. This is a free Android logging app.
2. Download and install this app, ensure it's running.
3. Launch Eye-Fi app and attempt to reproduce the issue you're seeing
4. Open aLogcat and press Menu > Save
5. To send this file you can either find it using a file browser on your Android or can plug the Android in to the computer. The log file will be located in a folder named alogcat.

Thanks,
Joe

Joe -

Since the app never starts, the logcat looks to be blank? Again, Google Nexus 7: Eye-Fi crashes before loading. Here's the message :"Unfortunately, Eye-Fi has stopped" There is NO logcat.

Unfortunately, it looks like 4.1/Jelly Bean is more restrictive about accessing logs, so we might need to find another method to see what's happening.

Update: it looks like you can generate a bug report in JB (on some devices) by pressing and holding the Volume Up and Down buttons together for at least 10 seconds. Let go and it should ask where you want to save the files that are created (email, Dropbox, etc.). Please try again to open the Eye-Fi app, and if it crashes, follow those steps to create a bug report and send that text file to us. You can post it here, or email it to support@eye.fi in case you don't want it to be public.

Thanks!

HI Joe -

The VOl up+down button worked on the Nexus 7. The only way that I can see to send it in is via email. I will title it "Google Nexus 7 crashes - Please support this tablet!" and send the bug report to support. Thanks.

Got it, thank you!

By the way, for other Android devices running 4.1, if Volume Up+Down doesn't work, try pressing and holding Power + Volume Up + Volume Down for ~10 seconds, then release, to see if that generates a log.

We have released a new firmware for the Eye-Fi card that works around the Android OS bug that causes a system crash after connecting to the Eye-Fi card.
