App ignores Upload to Computer setting on multiple devices

Postby ersouza on Wed Jun 20, 2012 7:41 am

I have the EyeFi X2 card and have recently been using it to pair with one of two Android devices via Direct Mode: Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Acer Iconia Tab A510.

In both cases I have unchecked the option to Upload to Computer in the App settings, but the App ignores this choice and still uploads to the computer automatically.

What I'd like to be able to do is review photos on the Android device first, eliminate bad photos, then manually initiate the upload of the remainder to the designated upload computer.

Is this possible? Or am I misunderstanding the purpose of the Upload to Computer option in the App settings?

Thank you.

hi ersouza,

You're right, if the Upload to Computer setting is off, the app should not automatically forward the photos to the computer.

When you say they are uploading to the computer, are full-size copies of your original photos being saved to your photo destination folder? If you are uploading your photos to any online destinations (Flickr, Facebook, Eye-Fi View, etc.), thumbnails will appear in Eye-Fi Center, but the originals should not be forwarding there.

If the full photos are transferring, please open your card's settings in Eye-Fi Center and disable Eye-Fi View as well as any online uploads in the photos/videos/RAW settings.

On the Android device, please uninstall the Eye-Fi app. In the Eye-Fi Center program on your computer, right-click the Android device, choose Deactivate, and remove it from your account. Now, reinstall the Eye-Fi mobile app, sign back in, and pair the card to Android again. Make sure Upload to Computer is turned off. From the main app screen, open the menu and choose Status. Shoot some new photos onto the Eye-Fi card, and watch the Status screen to see if the app uploads photos, and to where. It should only receive them.

After this test, restart Eye-Fi Center on the computer. Do not agree to receive files from the Android device on the computer. Open the settings for the Android device, and enable photos/videos/RAW to save to the computer. Take some new photos onto the Eye-Fi card and see what happens.

I hope this helps!

yes, the uploads to the computer have been coming through full size.

I tried the procedure you suggested - uninstalled the app, deactivated the tablet on my account, then reinstalled, etc. but it still ends up automatically uploading the photos to the PC once I go into the Android tablet's settings in EyeFi Center on the PC and re-enable the Upload photos feature there.

Sorry for the delay, this is an odd one.

Are you sending the photos to Android using Direct Mode, or through a wi-fi network?

We recently updated the Android app, so please make sure you are now on 1.2.6. Disable all the Upload settings, and try again while on our app's Status screen. After the photos are received by the app, do they queue up here and then upload? Does the app say it's sending each photo to 'desktop', or somewhere else? Please also try some uploads to Android with the status bar pulled down. Does it show the same thing?

Another step to try: remove all Android devices from your account, then sign out and back in on just 1 device. Again, set the destination on the computer, make sure all the Upload settings are turned off in the app, and try again.

If these steps don't help we might need to check some log files.

Thanks!

Thanks for reporting this. You are quite correct that the checkbox on the device is being ignored and is completely dependent on the Eye-Fi Center setting on whether you have selected a destination for the phone or not. I've already fixed the issue and we'll get an update posted soon.

Thanks again,
Bruce

So it looks like the latest software update did in fact fix this. Thanks to you both, jsun and Bruce, for being so attentive to this and resolving the issue. This really helps me make the most of the EyeFi card!
