5.0111 hanging in middle of posting pictures to PC

Postby bdgregg » Sat Mar 31, 2012 11:49 am

Here's my hardware configuration:
Camera: Nikon D5000
Router: Linksys E3200 with newest firmware 1.0.03 - WPA2/WPA Mixed mode wireless security setting in router.
Eye-Fi Card: Eye-Fi Pro X2 Card 8GB - MAC 00:18:56:41:05:d0 with 5.0111 firmware.
PC: Windows 7 Enterprise with SP1

Issue: Normally Camera is 3-5 ft. away from wireless router when I bring it in to transfer the pictures. When I take a few pictures and bring camera within the office (next to router) and turn it on, pictures half transfer or not at all. If I leave the camera 15-20 feet away we have the same effect. Turn off/on camera again - pictures start to transfer again but tend to only partially transfer once more. Eventually if you turn off/on camera enough times all pictures will transfer. All pictures will transfer correctly if you put the card into the USB card reader and attach it to the PC.

Tried:
1.) Removed all WI-FI networks from the Eye-fi card and re-added them.
2.) Rebooted the PC
3.) Rebooted the router.

You did not experience these symptoms with 5.0008?

Yes - Same experiences with 5.0008 and was hoping they would go away in 5.0111 as I thought that there was mention in the release notes that it was resolved and I wanted to try it. :D

After following the changes outlined in the following URL I've been able to successfully resume transfers between my Eye Fi card and my home PC/Network (Linksys E3200) without hanging and or dropping connection. This may come in handy for those that have been having any similar problems.

Just wish I found this info sooner.

Thanks,
Brian.

danb,

No problem.

And just for everyone else - out of all of the hints in the link in my last posting I believe changing the MTU value to something other than 'automatic' and less than 1500 seemed to fix the problem. Since I have switched the MTU parameters to "Manual" and 1472 for the MTU size I have nothing but successful uploads from the Eye-Fi card. I would suggest trying this trick first. Make sure you reboot the router after the change.

Next time I think I'll look at a D-link router or something other than Linksys for my home network for a couple reasons. One - the issue of "Dropping/Intermittent wireless connectivity", and two - the router although is gigabit it does not handle jumbo frames which is needed to realize the full speed of a gigabit network especially if you are transferring large files.

I sincerely apologize for thinking that the issue was the Eye-Fi card, I should have known that Cisco would have been the culprit (we have other Cisco equipment at work and have run into a few bugs with the equipment there).

Thanks again. :D

I could be wrong, but I think Brian intended on saying he changed his MTU (or MRU) size to 1492 for better connectivity (not 1472). Packets are 8bits - so this setting should be adjusted in increments of 8 (from 1500 max)
