Help with issues related to the Eye-Fi Manager

The latest upgrade has downgraded my service.

Postby susandennis » Thu Nov 27, 2008 1:09 pm

Ever since the latest upgrade, my Eye Fi - working fine for nearly a year - has stopped working fine. No upload (to computer or service - Flickr) is easy. I take the picture and leave the camera on (it is set to say on for 3 minutes). Nothing happens or I get a partial upload. I turn the camera on again. After a couple of minutes it may kick in or I may need to wait and turn it on a third time.

This is very much NOT fun.

I have made ZERO changes to any settings on my computer, on my camera, on my Eye-Fi. The only change is your upgrade.

Please upgrade the upgrade so that it works fine again.

Hmmm... I'm seeing the same kind of behavior, but I assumed it was because I'm on a different network (at my sister's for the holidays) and there was something funky here. I'm having transfers quit prematurely and having to power cycle the card frequently to get them to resume.

Yeah, I wouldn't be so hasty to blame your sister's computer. Yesterday, I was finally able to get photos transferred after cycling the camera on 3 times. My camera uses a rechargeable battery and my recharger is working overtime.

your computer must be connected to the internet to geotag yo

Postby CliffS » Fri Nov 28, 2008 5:41 pm

Ever since the eyefi desktop manager upgrade, I've received messages that say,

"Your computer must be connected to the internet to geotag your photos... do you want to continue yes/no"

Naturally, my computer is fully connected to the internet. ANd no, I do not have geotagging enabled (I don't have the geotaggin option).

And clicking on either Yes or No results in no more photos being uploaded. I have to exit & restart the EyeFi desktop manager.

SYstem: Canon Powershot A590 with an Eye-Fi Orange/Green Share card. Computer is a Windows XP/SP3 box, running software that's been updated in the past 3 days (2.0.3.0)

Everything worked perfectly up until Nov 24th. Things went increasingly sour after the desktop upgrade of Nov 27th.

Cliff,

Have you rebooted since the latest desktop software update? It shouldn't have been necessary, but just in case.

Susan,

Are your symptoms (and/or your system configuration) close to Cliff's?

Thanks,

Berend

Berend,

My ability to access Eye Fi Manager is sporadic at best. It usually takes some closing of the browser, opening of the browser, relogging in, etc. But that has always been the case - long before this last upgrade.

BUT, with this upgrade, it is FAR more difficult to get my photos uploaded to the computer and Flickr.

My computer is running Vista Ultimate. (I have made NO changes in the computer configuration recently, nor have I touched the Eye Fi reader).
I am running Eye Fi Manager 2.0.3.0.
My camera is a Cannon Powershot SD 800 IS.
My Eye Fi card is the original.

I have been operating successfully with this setup for 10 months. While access the Eye Fi Manager on my computer has been a problem for a long time, getting the photos uploaded has never been an issue until last week with the last upgrade.

I shoot the photo and leave the camera on - it is set to stay on for 3 minutes. It shuts down, nothing uploaded. I turn it on again. If I am VERY lucky, it uploads on the second try. Usually, it takes three tries - (try = wait for camera to turn off after 3 minutes and turn it on again).

FWIW - my problem seems to have been resolved by a little tweaking of their network. Back at home now and things are as they always were (working well).

hyachts, What kind of tweaking did you do? I have not done anything to my network since the last update but maybe I should.

I have rebooted several times now. Last night I took 6 pictures.

None uploaded before the camera turned off after 3 minutes.
I turned it back on and 1 uploaded.
I turned it back on again and another uploaded.
I turned it back on again and the third one uploaded.
Once again and 2 uploaded.
The final one finally uploaded after I turned the camera one the 5th time.

Mostly the preview window comes up about 40 seconds after I turn the camera on. The camera stays on for 3 minutes and except for the one time, the first preview is all I get.

This is making me nuts!

They had an Apple AirPort Extreme and an AirPort Express that were linked together with WDS (wireless distribution). The two access points were right next to each other, though - so I turned off WDS and the wireless on the Express entirely and had them connect everything (the two routers and a few other networked appliances they had there) with an Ethernet switch. Finally I had to move the Extreme up and away from a bunch of stereo and TV equipment because their range was abysmal. The big problem, though, was the WDS. WDS is crap anyways, but especially with the two devices right next to each other it was causing all kinds of slowdown and erratic behavior. This is not a situation that I would expect most people would have.

Ah, yeah... I getcha. thanks.

My network stays in top shape cause I work at home (web production). I need every last ounce of efficiency!

I have, just now, cleaned off my Eye Fi card of all the pictures. Moved the reader to a different USB port. Rebooted.

I'm hoping something in all that fiddling will shake the problem loose so it can fly away!

Hi there Susan,

Sorry to hear that you're having issues with the Eye-Fi Manager website.

If you want, can you try hitting http://manager.eye.fi/diagnostics.php and email me what you see at sean at eye dot fi and I'll see if I can figure out what the problem is.

Hi there,

I am having similar trouble here with the latest update for eye-fi.

I upgraded the software here to 2.0.3.0 and ever since, images fail to load onto the computer.
I have to frequently exit the Manager software and start it up again to try and get the photos off onto my computer.

We have never really had a problem with this in the past but since upgrading the software it has been messing everything up.

Any help would be greatful.

Win Vista: C:\Users\<USER_NAME>\App Data\Roaming\Eye-Fi\EyeFi.log

quikpix had some issues with their network storage where the pictures are delivered. And this was causing interruption in the picture delivery. And i don't see this issue related to the 2.0.3 software.

prabha,

that is great news for quikpix.

may I send you my Eye-Fi manager software log in hopes you can figure out why my pictures are no longer being delivered easily?

Prabha patiently worked with me to diagnose my problem. I'm not sure what we did along the way but whatever it was sure seems to have fixed the problem. Whew. It's GLORIOUS to have my Eye Fi back.

I spent some cycles wondering about living without it and none of those pictures were pretty at all!
