I've scanned thro the previous pages and was wondering how close we are to having an app on a ubuntu repository that will host Eye-fi for me: I've a photographer not a developer or script wizard. I've used Eye-fi at work on a windows system, and would like to use it on my Ubuntu 10.04 laptop at home, or when I'm out at events. I'd like to be reasonably sure it will work before shelling out fifty odd quid *yes, dollar=pound pricing is evil) to buy my own eye-fi card as I no longer run windoze at home.

The closest to ubuntu solution I know is https://launchpad.net/eyefi, I believe. I don't know if it provides gui, etc, but it is not in a repository. I have a ppa with iii, but it also has no gui frontend. Also, no linux-based solution will let you get it working without using windos or mac at all — you can only get keys from the official software settings.

Still having difficulties. I have tried both the Perl and the Python servers, and they are reachable on their respective ports when connecting from laptops on the same wifi. The log on the card indicates a successful join into my wifi network and the IP address is in the appropriate subnet.

Still, the card never makes an attempt to connect to the Linux TCP server. Everything works with the windows software on the computer where I did the initial setup. I turned off the software on windows and the whole windows computer but still no connect to the Linux server.

It is not clear to me how the card is supposed to pick a server on the wifi in the first place. Can somebody confirm or deny whether it is actually scanning all hosts for open port 59278? That sounds excessive, I mean I have a class B network here, that's a lot of scanning to do. But I don't see any setting where to tell the thing where to go. It isn't as stupid as trying to remember from where I set it up, right?

From that it isn't clear either whether the thing uploads to the eye.fi server on the Internet or the local windows machine. It gives neither hostname nor port

It's this card: "Eye-Fi Pro X2 8 GB Class 6 SDHC Wireless Flash Memory Card EYE-FI-8PC"
Maybe this one uses a different TCP port or something?

I tried turning direct mode on and direct mode off, no change.

In that log snippet, it looks like the card first connected to the server, then found an Eye-Fi agent (either Eye-Fi Helper or your clone server) on the LAN and sent the pics there. "Switched to agent for dynamic path online uploads" is the key line. Too bad it didn't list an IP, I'm not sure why it sometimes omits that. Of course, to find out what happened, just check your computer(s) to see where those particular images arrived. Maybe Eye-Fi Helper was still running on your PC or Mac and uploads were enabled.

If you want to make sure the card only transfers locally and not via the Eye-Fi servers, make sure Relayed Transfers are disabled. In Eye-Fi Center on your PC or Mac, open the card settings and choose Transfer Mode>Relayed Transfers. If there is no check box to disable Relayed, make sure Eye-Fi View, Hotspots, and online sharing for all formats are all disabled.

When the card is looking for the Eye-Fi agent on your LAN (the log mentions probing for listener), I believe it first checks a cached list of one or more IPs it's connected to before, then widens its search to other nearby IPs that may have TCP port 59278 open.

btw, just tried rifec on OS X 10.5.8 and it worked just fine! (once I got all the dependencies installed, of course.)

The "magic" Windows software doesn't allow me to turn off Relayed Transfer. It simply says it is enabled and there's no dialog box to uncheck it.

I'm pretty sure that's my problem here. When I take the windows machine down it doesn't start looking for the Linux server, it simply goes off to the Interwebz.

Allright, just turning off enough stuff makes this work, the checkbox to disable direct mode appears, I can kill it.

However, it is now probing all the wrong hosts:

172.16.29.1 is where the Windows machine was listening.

172.16.26.* is the class C subnet that the eyefi card is on. Except of course I have a class B network here and I set a class B network mask.

Is it possible that this thing is too dumb to get the right network mask?

Yes, that's it. Thanks so much jsun, things work now.

I had to give the server machine an interface alias in that (what looks like) a class C network, then the card did find it.

So again, the steps I had to do:

• Server needs an address within the /8 network, regardless of what the netmask is
• You need to turn direct mode off but you can't directly. You randomly poke around the window software and turn everything off until the option to turn direct mode off appears.
• I am using the python server. The perl server with my card bails out as follows.
• I also pinged the card from the computer, dunno whether that made a difference. I know that it doesn't make it work for > /8 network addresses.

It will default to the destination directory set in the [main] section and such, so there are some fall through cases. However, we need the specific upload key for every card, otherwise it won't talk to us, so some per-card config is required.

Did I understand correctly that there's no way to upload to my Ubuntu server over the public Internet, without having a PC to help relay the connection?

I'm trying to run any Eye-Fi server on QNAP TS259. For now it seems that eyefiserver is the only one able to run on that hardware because of the lack of several Perl, Python and SOAP components (also tried rifec, iii and eyefi-0.2). Eye-Fi card seems to try connecting but there is no any sign of a file transfer attempt.

I'm trying to get eyefiserver (2.0) to work on my NAS as well, it's a Synology DiskStation. So far everything works, eyefiserver.py starts up without errors. Camera with eyefi card connects to the server, server checks upload key and compares to the one in the ini file, correct, goes on, camera tries to send 3 files, server accepts, once file is received it will do a file digest check and this is where it stops working. somehow the file digest don't match. it spits out an error and tells me to make sure the upload key is correct, which i have checked more than once. does anyone know whether the way the file digest is calculated has changed? eyefiserver is not very new anymore and things may have changed. i am using a SanDisk 8GB+WiFi SDHC Card.

Eyefiserver2 work fine on QNAP too. I've built the QPKG with eye.fi-clone web interface for that version.

but strangely still nothing upload to the folder. I DON'T enable the Relay Transfer mode, but after half and hour waiting after server up, it still doesn't upload any picture.. any idea??

well after a year with my eyefi card just laying there because i couldnt get it to work on linux i decidet to give it a go...
i tryed with eyefiserver 2,0 and found that i should have a deb, but i couldnt find the deb under thair download page.
then i tryed rifec but rifec tells of a lot of erors and dont work on my ubuntu 12.10 box.

it is 2013 and this thred have been going since 2008 could someone please make a updatet howto that i can folow fron a-z to get it to work.

I just want to say here, that i also want the Manager for linux.

IMHO it's ok if the existing manager would be changed, so it's works with wine.

Btw. i use EyeFiServer from nirgal hosted on github as a server. It works fine!

What did the error messages say? If the documentation doesn't help, you could try posting the error messages here. Perhaps someone knows how to fix your problem.

Get the upload key either from settings.xml or using the eyefiinfo utility, then put it into the eyefiserver.conf file.

For anyone trying to run eyefiinfo, the perl script from
github d-o-t com slash cyberhuman slash eyefiinfo
I found that in Ubununtu 12.04 I needed to install there packages:
libxml-bare-perl libtext-formattable-perl libio-prompt-perl libwant-perl
(also installed libterm-prompt-perl and libterm-readkey-perl but I think that was irrelevant)

so now I got the key, and eyefiserver2 is logging connections, but not downloading pictures. Off to try eyefilistener.

Protocol question: Does anyone know what the upsyncallowed field in the StartSessionResponse actually means? It seems someone is seeing some weird behaviour which is fixed by changing it from false to true, and I really would like to understand what that flag is supposed to do.
