Error: Card not detected?

Postby Lindsey on Thu Dec 25, 2008 12:30 pm

Hi,
I'm trying to do the initial setup of the card, and on the Eye-fi manager page that asks for my email, name, and password, I keep getting this error:

There was an error ...

The Eye-Fi card you are attempting to activate could not be detected.
Please reinsert the card, restart the Eye-Fi Manager software, and try again.

I'm using the latest version of Mac osx, and have tried ejecting and remounting the card multiple times.
Could this be related to the holiday traffic as well? Why is it that my computer can see the card but the Eye-fi manager cannot?
Thanks,
Lindsey

I'm having exactly the same problem on a PC running Windows XP SP3. I updated the software after installing, tried rebooting, neither helped. Tried reinserting the card multiple times, still get the same error every time...

Same here. Tried with both Mac and PC, card is not being recognized. was very briefly in mac but kept disconnecting and wouldn't work long enough to register card. Pretty weak Eye-Fi

A lot of these cards are simply bad. Look at the "Total card failure" and "Memory Card Error" threads.

You should consider yourself lucky because your card was DOA.

Many folks took a few dozen Xmas pictures and then the card failed causing them to lose all their Xmas pics

Eye-Fi have not yet responded to these problems.

The Eye-Fi severs and customer service folks are completely overwhelmed

Well, based on the fact that this card is DOA, the servers are crashed on Xmas/ People are losing irreplaceable photos and there seems to be some serious quality control problems at this company.

Hi all,

Can you please navigate to http://manager.eye.fi/diagnostics.php and post back to the forums the resulting page. Please have your Eye-Fi card inserted in the reader when you navigate to this page.

For Windows XP/Vista users who are experiencing these difficulties, please list the security software you have installed on your machine.

Thanks

Don't know what you are going to get out of this, I think the thing is just broken. I'm running McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 7.1

Just got off the phone with support. They are going to send me a new reader that "supplies more power to the card". Also they suggested leaving the card attached for a while to see if it recognizes it.

I'm going to call back in a few hours to see if I can speak with a Level 2 support person when they get in.

Attimus,

Can you please check your hosts file and ensure it has an entry for localhost. From the diagnostic report that you have, it sounds similar to the issue that aghphoto had in this posting: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=292&start=15#p1963.

Ok, I called support again. None of the level 2 support people are available they are all "in a meeting". Yeah, probably about all the bad cards.

They offered to replace the card, but that will take 2-3 weeks. By then I won't be able to return the POS.

I can't believe that there is no way to simply re-flash the firmware without being registered. I can't even create an account.

FYI - No one ever asked for the S/N off of the back of the unit either.

Unless I hear something back in the next day, it's back to the store for a refund and Eye-Fi gets a thumbs down in my book.

The problems for me started when a screen pictured in the printed start-up guide never appeared...it's the one where you set up an account. This forum did allow me to find a page where I should have been able to register the card, etc. but I also got the message that the card could not be detected. I am under 8 feet from an airport base station.

So far, I'm not impressed.

I am also experiencing the card not found issue. I can read the card memory. see the directories of the card, but the card is not seen by Eye-Fi Manager.

I am using XPP SP2. I am running AVG Free 8.0

Having the same issue-tried to set up on both an XP desktop & Vista Laptop with no success. Ran diagnostics and got exact same info as nerd1701 got. Happy to know I'm not the only one with this issue. Got this brand new for an Xmas present, ready to send it back for a refund. Bad first impression eye-fi.

Correction: EFManager sees, but won't initialize card.

Postby jbarber on Sun Dec 28, 2008 12:50 pm

To clarify my earlier posts of yesterday, The EF Manager DOES see the card when I insert it, tries to initialize it for a few moments, then brings up a window that says it failed to initialize. I've tried when the EF Manager is not running, started it, it finds the card, tries to initialize, and fails. I've tried when the EF Manager is already running--same result. I assume that if EFManager can't initialize the card, then I won't be able to log in. I have a tried another SD card reader I have lying around, that connects via Firewire, with no success. I suspect a bad card.

This really sucks...

Why on earth do you need to register with you just to make the thing work?

The card can be read... I can see pictures and get them... yet all I get is

"The Eye-Fi card you are attempting to activate could not be detected. Please reinsert the card, restart the Eye-Fi Manager software, and try again."

I have tired with your reader and my reader... same error...

I have also tried with FF and IE same error...

This thing is DOA??? I hope not...

Don't know if it matters... but

FWIW - your problem sounds like it has nothing to do with the need to register the card. You haven't been very clear - has the card ever been recognized by the computer? When you plugged it in the first time did it give you the option to auto-install the manager software? By your claim of DOA, it sounds like none of these things have happened. With a little more information about what you've done and what you're experiencing someone might be able to help.

Re: Error: Card not detected?

OK... fair enough...

I plug in the card...

It launches the EyeFi Manager... I plug in my email... Name... password...

Click to create an account...

And then I get...
"There was an error ...
The Eye-Fi card you are attempting to activate could not be detected.
Please reinsert the card, restart the Eye-Fi Manager software, and try again.
Please contact Eye-Fi support with any questions."

I have read other posts... that reference the USB port can't give enough power to get the WiFi to stay active... so I tired my own USB reader and got the same error. Tired my laptop to the same error... tired my desktop to the same error... tried different USB ports to the same error...

What shall I try now...

Thanks...

I just bought an Eye-Fi Share at Best Buy today. I have the same problem as most people here.

Code: Select all
There was an error ...

The Eye-Fi card you are attempting to activate could not be detected.

Please reinsert the card, restart the Eye-Fi Manager software, and try again.

Doesn't work with the USB adapter or straight into my Vaio's SD card port.

Michael,

This is a bit of bad choice of wording on our part, but the communication failure here (with respect to this specific error) is not between the computer and the Eye-Fi Card itself, but actually between the two components of the Eye-Fi software (the Eye-Fi Manager web application and desktop software). Could you please plug the card into your computer and once the detection bubble comes up and directs you to the registration (and errors out), enter the following URL into your browser:

http://manager.eye.fi/diagnostics.php

and post the output here?

Are you using any "non-standard" plug-ins with your browser or running "unusual" firewall software?

Thanks,

Berend

@flashframe

Can you take a look at your /etc/hosts file please. From the diagnostics report you provided, it looks like you're having a similar issue to viewtopic.php?f=4&t=292&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=15#p1963.

Looks like you're running Windows. You should be able to find it under C:\Documents and Settings\<USER_NAME>\Application Data\Eye-Fi\EyeFi.log

Ah, that makes more sense then.

Fell back to the binary method of figuring out extensions conflicts (ah, old Mac OS.) I disabled the second half of the add-ons in Firefox, nothing... disabled the first half, suddenly they could talk and I got set up.

I turned everything back on, narrowed it down to NoScript 1.8.9.7 blocking http://localhost:59278. Told it to allow and it can see the card now.

I have to go downstairs for the card to be in range, but I can live with that.

Thanks!

Software does not detect brand new card "No card is inserted". Formatted in Vista as well as in Nikon D50, no luck.
