Sharing sites that support password access to collections

Postby leehopkins » Thu Apr 16, 2009 5:27 pm

I'm a huge flickr user but I'm engaged in a project* for a local high school where I'd like to have a single password to access the photos uploaded from this project.

Can anyone recommend a photo sharing service that will allow (1)easy downloads of photos and (2) the ability to put a password on a collection of several hundred photos?

* ok, I think this is pretty cool. We have an after prom program at our local high school. We're swapping out SD cards for eye-fi for 4 After Prom Papparazzi. 4 kids will wear buttons and snap candid shots. We'll be projecting the photos and uploading them for downloading.

I don't see why you can't use Flickr for this. Set up a role account and an easy to remember password. Set your cards in the Eye-Fi manger to upload photos as private. Give everyone who needs access to the photos the account info and password.

Something like FlickrDown, http://greggman.com/pages/flickrdown.htm, may help make it easier to get the whole batch.

Note, this may violate Yahoo/Flickr terms of service. Check to make sure. You may want to setup several different accounts, perhaps one per card, to get use of the free Flickr account.

Turns out Filckr is blocked by the school firewall. I'll have to test out the other Eye-fi supported hosters.

Thanks for your suggestion. I may end up going that way with whatever service I can connect to.

Another option is to setup your own Gallery2 website. You could probably get this added to the school website and lock it down. This should have both internal and external visibility to allow for the photos to uploaded.

SmugMug allows you to set a site-wide password.
