Canon S100 GPS Logging

Postby hansendc » Mon Aug 13, 2012 9:58 am

According to its manual (Sorry, the forum won't let me post a URL, but you can find it on Canon's web site) the S100 can not save its logs when using an Eye-Fi card (Page 114 of the manual):
If "an Eye-Fi card is inserted in the camera, you will not be able to save GPS log files."

I'm curious why this is. Is the battery life just too bad with GPS *and* WiFi running?

hi hansendc,

Apparently when the GPS logger is enabled, the camera continues to log data even when the camera is off. Maybe the camera provides just enough power to keep a standard SD card available for writing, but not enough to properly initialize the Eye-Fi card. Just a guess.

We have a few posts about SX230 GPS logging in the forums, but I didn't notice any mention of what actually happens when you turn on the GPS logger with the Eye-Fi card inserted. Does it even let you enable the feature? Does it create a log file at all?

Thanks.

It doesn't even let you enable the feature. The menu item for logging just gets grayed out.

Thanks for the update, just wanted to make sure.

Maybe Canon disabled this because the feature didn't work right with our cards, or as you said maybe it's just a battery saving measure so the card doesn't also try to upload when the camera is turned off.
