Cannot connect to Facebook

Postby mwelch » Thu Jul 15, 2010 9:38 pm

Just bought the x2 4GB Eye-fi card, and am having a really hard time setting it up. Finally got past the rather confusing Eye-fi account creation, and wanted to connect my card to facebook.

Multiple attempts have failed, however, as each time I get a "Invalid service authentication parameters" message. I gave all the permissions it asked for, and left all the settings at their defaults. Other services (picasaweb, flickr) work fine.

Unfortunately, the last time that message has been mentioned on this forum is the end of 2008.

Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Is facebook support just super flakey?

mwelch, mavman,

When trying to add Facebook to your Eye-Fi Accounts, please pay attention to the 'revoke all permission' link.

If you are re-adding Facebook to your Eye-Fi Account, you will need to click on this link, and remove all 'Eye-Fi' from the Granted Additional Permissions page.

Once you have done this, go back to the Eye-Fi Center and click on 'Add' and go through the process. This should add Facebook to your Eye-Fi Center account.

Please let us know if you run into any other issues.

As I've noted to tech support each time they try to tell me that this is the issue, I've already done this! I've cleared the Eye-Fi permissions each of the 20 or so times I've tried to connect this card to Facebook. I can get all the way through the Facebook part of things in Eye Fi Center, but when the facebook modal dialog closes, I get the "Invalid service authentication parameters" message.

I got an email last week telling me that Eye Fi recently discovered a change in the way Facebook authenticates, and that they would have a fix soon. An email prompt from me yesterday resulted in them telling me, AGAIN, to reset the facebook permissions. Unbelievable.

This would be comical if it weren't for the fact that I paid money for a product that clearly doesn't work.

Mwelch,

I was having the SAME problem. I already had my gallery2 set up and wanted to add my facebook account. First two times I attempted this, had the same exact error as you. The third time I tried it (after I had done exactly the same thing I had done prior), I removed the checkmark from the "Enable" area and then added my facebook account and it worked.

Not sure if this will work for you too, but it's worth a shot right?

I too have the exact same problem.
It is odd, because I did have a Facebook connection made in Eye-Fi Center. I deleted this and removed the application definition in Facebook.
I then try to recreate a new facebook connection, I am asked to allow Eye-fi to allow offline access, and also to allow publishing and then I get that error, and the profile does not save. Upon the second attempt to create a profile, I am told that the application already has the permissions, but the profile does not save.
I hope they fix this soon.

I noticed when I was going through this myself that I had to click on the "Edit Settings" first and un-check both boxes before clicking the "X" to remove the application. Otherwise, it didn't completely remove the application for me.

I am having the exact same problem; I can add the permissions to my facebook account, but after that window closes, it then gives the error -

Unable to save service to card
Invalid service authentication parameters.

Is there a solution for this problem yet?

Here is a picture of the error:

To make sure to delete all the applicable permissions for the Eye-Fi application on Facebook, please use this link:
http://www.facebook.com/editapps.php#/e ... v=extended

This is the link we provide on the Facebook authentication page as well. For some reason, going through the menus on Facebook does not get you to the right page and there are some permissions that remain, even though they aren't visible on the page.

I hope this works for you.

My problem with connecting to facebook appears different. Following that link, there are NO Eye-Fi links into my Facebook but I get 'An error occurred with Eye-Fi Notifications. Please try again later.' immediately after entering my login details. I've been trying again for a week! Is this a known problem?

I have this exact same problem. I've followed the instructions exactly and removed all offending traces of Eye Fi and in continues to fail. I receive the same message:

Unable to save service to card
Invalid service authentication parameters.

Are there no other solutions?

I have this same error. Deleting permissions on facebook and readding the application (with or without that "enable" box checked) gets me nowhere. This is something that needs to be fixed on eye-fi or facebook's end, no way there is just this much user error...

I was finally able to connect to Facebook. Believe it or not, the answer that others have given in this post are correct, but it is not spelled out explicitly what to do.

You do need to revoke the EXTENDED permissions for the Eye-Fi app, but not permission for the app itself. If you follow the link in the setup or in the posts above, it should give you a long list of permissions by category like "Publish to my Wall", "Offline Access", etc. Applications can show up multiple times on this list, once in each category. From this list, remove all of the extended permissions that have been granted to Eye-Fi. These include:

Publish to my Wall
Offline Access
Status Update
Photos
Videos
Notes
Share

Click the "x" to delete Eye-Fi from each of these categories and that is all you need to delete. If you change from the "Granted Additional Permissions" list using the drop down to "Recently Used", Eye-Fi should still show up as having permission - DO NOT DELETE THIS PERMISSION.

Now you should be able to go back to the Eye-Fi Center and try to set up Facebook again just as you did before. When you click "Connect card to Facebook", you will notice that it will not ask you to grant Eye-Fi permission to see your personal information as it had done before, but ask first to grant Offline Access. Then it will ask you to apporve the second extended permission, at which point you should get the success message instead of the error depicted in my previous post.

Glad that worked - I was actually making a video screen capture to show that removing permissions did not solve this problem, so I was following what was said in the replies very literally, and to my surprize, instead of the error I got the success message.

Keep in mind that it still seems like there is some issue with uploading photos to Facebook - every photo is uploaded into a new album, so you will have to go through and consolidate them all into one album. More details can be found in this post:

Well, I can't get past the Request permission window from the Eye-Fi- centre. Don't understand why it's so difficult as I was able to link to two different Flickr accounts. All this business about removing this and that to do with Eye-Fi on the Facebook page doesn't mean much because Eye-Fi doesn't appear on Facebook anywhere.

Work around is to link to Facebook from Flickr... that worked for me before and hopefully is still working...
