Share your iOS feature requests here

Postby brett maxwell » Tue Apr 19, 2011 7:44 pm

The new app is live with Direct Mode, let's make this a thread to (kindly) tell the Eye-Fi folks about our great ideas for improving the app. Not a place for bugs or troubleshooting, just ideas for new features.

Go.

I've only been using the new (iPad) app for about 20 minutes, but a few things come to mind immediately:

1) Allow grid viewing in landscape orientation
2) Allow EXIF data to be shown
3) Enable pinch to zoom

1. Delete photo/video (I did not find any way to delete from the eyefi app; had to go to Photos to delete them)
2. Play video from within the app
3. pinch-to-zoom and exif date (THIRD)

I would like to be able to set it up so that I could upload to my iPad when I am out shooting and then have the option for the card to upload everything when I get home to the computer all as a complete set.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Tap to zoom to 100%.

The major point of having this app is to allow one to check focus on a display bigger than 3". You need 100% to be able to check focus with complete confidence. Pinching is nice but it would be so much better to just be able to tap with 1 or 2 or 3 fingers somewhere and for it to zoom in to 100%. Checking focus in 1 tap would so rock.

Being able to specify the location of saved files. Maybe ability to create folders or albums would be a handy feature.

LANDSCAPE mode on iPad!

Would also love Pinch to Zoom (so I don't have to constantly go back to the photos app) and having the info button be a popup (or full-screen on iPhone/iPod touch) with the EXIF info would be nice!

I have been looking forward to direct mode for so long. Now it is finally here and I am excited! I was really hoping that the free eye-fi ios app for ipad would allow me to escape having to pay $15 for shuttersnitch however unless we can add albums and autoupdating slideshow to the eye-fi app I believe I am still going to have to breakdown and shell out $15!

Thanks,

John

Email support directly from in the app.
Dropbox support.
Need an option to display only the photo's that were transfered wirelessly and not show other photos that were saved to the camera roll.
Need an option to only receive photo's that have been protected, and not all photo's on the card.

The app can display received photos full-screen as they are received. It's not so much of an automatic slideshow, but more of a "here's the latest photo I've received" display.

I don't believe the iOS Photo Gallery allows third-party creation of albums, which is where this limitation may lie. I don't know this for certain, but I haven't seen any other apps with this feature either.

That's a really great idea, I don't know why I didn't think of that! I'd still like to have pinch to zoom though, and if having both would make for complications in the user interface, the 100% view could be a button down by the info button.

Great! I'm looking forward to seeing how this app develops. It has some obvious advantages over using MyWi and Shuttersnitch as I have been doing, but Shuttersnitch still has several feature advantages like galleries, zooming, EXIF, more export options, etc.

I love the app functionality, GREAT work breaking ground in a whole new genre of capabilities.

My requests would be EXIF data on the Info button (i)
I would prefer MUCH better "status" information. Receiving files, Tranfering files, mark which files have already been transferred to Eye-Fi Center. (I can't really tell what has been sent to my home PC unless I login to it to check). The old SELECT NEW and UPLOAD function is gone, and should now be automated, but I cannot tell what has/has not transferred.

Other than these basic requests, I'm loving the functionality so far!

If you put your Eye-Fi Card into Selective Transfer mode, it will only transfer items that have been protected.

As far as we can tell, there's no way for a 3rd party app like ours to delete items that are in the photo gallery. If you have used any apps that allow you to delete photos that are in the Photo Gallery, please let us know.

You should be able to do this already.

1. Login to your Eye-Fi Center desktop application on your computer
2. Select the mobile device (iPhone/iPad/Android) and click on the Settings gear next to the name. If you don't see your mobile device listed on the left-hand bar, you will have to re-start Eye-Fi Center.
3. Under Settings -> Photos, check the box that says "Upload photos to..."

On your mobile device:

1. Launch the Eye-Fi app
2. Go to Settings -> Upload Preferences and enable "Upload to computer"

There are no documented asset library APIs provided by iOS to delete items from the photo gallery:

http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/ ... rence.html

We will not do things that circumvent these APIs and run the risk of our app being rejected by the app review process, so, until Apple updates their APIs, the presence or absence of other apps that may delete from the asset library will remain purely "informational."

It would really make it automatic for all of use.

Also when selecting item to share...

The button to select all, select new, and clear all, is gone. Let put it back in. I like to be able to upload new one, providing the autoamtic uplaod option is not used.

Also, I'd liek to see a status of the file. How dod I know if the file was previously uplaoded?
If the file was uploaded (and then autoamtically deleted with new option) there would be confirmation of uplaod. Now I have no way of knowing what files are shared.

When multitasking, can you have a popup after 9 minutes telling me to reopen the app to prevent an interruption in the photos uploading? And also the obvious zoom feature that has been requested multiple times

The earlier eye-Fi app displayed information about photo transfers-such as if it has successfully transferred. This feature seems to have disappeared in the direct mode enabled app. Now I don't know of I've successfully transferred (shared) photos.

Hmmm.... It already is and it still transfered photos that I did not protect. I will have to try it again.

1. Real zoom (taptap -> 100%)
2. Background transfer in general. Now GUI freezes when transferring...
3. Squash the bugs on UI. (Annoying toolbar over pic when rotating in fulscreen)
4. Real fullscreen (No toolbars)
5. Pic info. (ISO, Focal length, Shutter speed...)
6. Ability to delete pics.
7. Alert when software is not connected to desired hotspot. (When you loose DM-hotspot, you want to know it.)
8. Ability to priorize JPG-transfer but still able to transfer RAW. That way you can always use it for quick check but raws are transferring on the background...

It would be good to have a fast switch to camera roll in the photo app. A button would do and that would allow quick deletes and better photo viewing(ie fullscreen) than you currently have.

Apple can do whatever the heck they want. It's their device, it's their OS, and it's their software.

* Add real full screen mode by tapping the image once and fade out the controls to go back and forth (like in the stock Photos App).

* Increase maximum zoom level very much, so it is possible to see if camera focussed correctly. Right now you can only zoom in very little, actually even the max zoom level of the Photos App isn't enough either.

I support this

1)Allow grid viewing in landscape orientation
2) Allow EXIF data to be shown
3) Enable pinch to zoom

This is a great application thanks EyE-FI keep up the good work.

Is it possible to do the same on a windows machine?

YES - dear god: everyone who has an iOS device ALSO owns a computer - when your shooting around your house, your EYE-FI won't connect to your iOS device cuz it's connected to your home router - so WHY do you have to choose between the 2??? Seems logical: if i'm w/in range of a perferred wireless network - upload to it. if your not, and an iOS connects, then upload there.

Don't get me wrong we're 90% of the way to an AWESOME tech breakthru! Let's take the last step!
