Multiple PC's on network?

Postby smmassociates » Wed Nov 26, 2008 2:38 am

I have Eye-Fi installed on the big desktop in my office, but the camera and card are normally in the family room, along with a notebook that's on the network.

I suppose I could just install the software on the notebook, but maybe some kind of lightweight configurator - primarily for firmware updates to the card?

I tend to forget to take the card upstairs....

What can I say.... I'm old.... One of my other cameras is a Polaroid 95b.

Regards,
Stu.

Only the distance to the wireless router is important. If all the computers in your house are connected to the same network, the card can upload to any of them as long as the card is in range of the wireless network.

So if you are having issues uploading downstairs, you could bring the wireless router downstairs. The desktop upstairs could still connect, and the card will be in range of the wireless router so photos can still upload.

Does that help?

I think what's being asked for is just a lightweight version of the manager software that can be put on another computer (not the one set up for download) to do card configuration/firmware updates. I don't think wireless range is entering in to the equation. FWIW I have just installed the manager software on other computers when I needed to change something. It's a bit of a pain, but I guess I don't really see a "light" version being that much more convenient.

Troy:

Thanks for the comeback.... But hyachts is correct....

Guess I need to read some more, but it looks like just doing another installation may be it, but the provided program seems to be the modern equivalent of a TSR, and I just don't need that on another box....

(I also, come to think of it, wonder why the heck the desktop icon just suggests I click the system tray icon.... Guess I could ditch the former....)

Sorry it took so long to get back here - I was in Columbus for the holiday without a "real" computer. My PDA isn't quite up to web-based message boards....

Stu.
