Discussion related to cameras used with your Eye-Fi Card

Canon 500d / Rebel T1i

Postby wvexelef on Fri May 01, 2009 10:21 am

Just installed my new EyeFi 2GB Share, and it seems that nothing happened. I checked my netword and I "saw" the card, but no photo was being transferred.
And what was very strange: the time-out for Power on my camera was set to 30 sec's but the camera didn't Power-Off at all!

So I did set the Power Off to 15 minutes and then after 9 minutes the transfer started...but very irregular: 5 photo's...pause for a minute or so...another photo.

I wouldn't recommend this card to my friends, very unreliable.
No I feel I bought a very expensive 2GB SD-card.

Sounds like a problem with signal strength. Are you able to see the card's signal strength in your router's admin interface? DSLR bodies often have a lot more mass between the card slot and the outside world so the card signal can be attenuated somewhat.

wvexelef: hang tight, if you can - we are looking into this issue. I don't believe it is signal strength related, but rather an interaction between the T1i and the Eye-Fi card.

wvexelef,

It be nice to have a look at your card log. How far from your wireless router was your camera when you were getting the sporadic uploads? If you could zip a copy of the card log and attach it to your reply post we can take a look to see what may be going on.

To get a card log, insert the card into your computer, then from the Eye-Fi Icon in the System Tray (Win) or Menubar (Mac), choose "Get Eye-Fi Card Log". Save it then attach a zip to your reply.

It looks like this was a year and a half ago, and it looks like nothing has changed. I bought a 4 gb card for my canon T1i and it does pretty much nothing except keep my camera turned on. I am using a 2_Wire router thru ATT. I have mac adress filtering turned on, and I allowed the card onto the network. It is connecting, which is nice, but it doesn't transfer anything. Other devices in my home have great signal strength.

I thought that the card was defective, so I sent them back. I got my new one from eye-fi and tried it tonight. Same thing. Looks like the defect is eye-fi on the T1i. Time to return this P.O.S. to amazon. Suuuper frustrating. I see other people expressing the same problems and see no solutions other than blaming signal strength.... nice.

Richard,

Before you return anything, would you be up for telling us which 4 GB card you're talking about (Connect X2 or one of the pre-X2 generation cards) and sharing a card log captured after an attempted transfer, either posted here or PMed? You are trying to transfer JPEGs, correct? Alternatively, if you have a support case open, feel free to PM me the ticket number and I'll take a look.

Thanks,

Berend

Same problem here, brand new x2 connect 4gb card works great in my camcorder, but the Canon T1i camera I purchased the card for, and is on the compatibility list doesn't seem to work.
The camera stays on, draining the battery, but no data gets uploaded.

I posted a support case #31166 but haven't had a response.

I also recently purchased a the Eye-Fi Connect x2 4gb + Wi-Fi specifically for my Canon and it does not work at all. At first, I thought it was my router, or some type of interference between my camera and my computer, but I switched the chip out to an 18 megapixel Fujifilm (a point and shoot) and the pictures uploaded just fine. What's wrong here? As we speak, my son is outside, taking pictures of everything, and the pictures are uploading. I'm frustrated because the purpose of buying this chip was to use it during events, where potential customers could go out into the foyer and see their pictures on the screen for purchase; the Fujifilm is not my Canon EOS, and therefore the quality is not the same. Some help please!

Have you submitted an E-Mail to tech support? If so, could you PM me the ticket number so that we may look into this further?

Yes, I submitted the ticket to techincal support (ticket 31166), but they just want to exchange the card... thing is it works fine in all my other cameras, card readers, my video camera.. even my car radio so I don't think it's bad.

I'm willing to bet it's because the door of the T1i has a metal plate in it and this is creating a faraday cage, blocking the signal. I'm going to try removing the plate and see what happens.

Thanks

Last post I see here was July 2011. I wish I saw this post sooner...

I bought a X2 4gb for my T1i and after inserting it my camera would not turn on? it would act like batteries were dead! I was soooo worried, then while swapping out batteries and putting my 16gb sdhc card it was working fine, even my 4gb eyfi pro card worked fine.

So if I stick the x2 card in it would freeze my camera in like a off state and I could not get it to work unless I pulled batteries out and powered up with one of my usual cards. Figured it was a bad card, took it back to best buy got a new one came home and same thing? compatibility chart says it works for the t1i?

Put the new card in my Panasonic camcorder and it works fine.

I filled out a ticket #51592

Any ideas besides sending it in or swapping it out, since I tried that once with bestbuy already. and it works in my camcorder.

Would eyefi list it on their site is working without verifying it?

copc,

Each camera we list on our site we test. In fact I just spent some time testing the T1i after reading your post as well to make sure we are reporting accurate information.

I was not able to reproduce you findings. However, I have a few questions for you:

What firmware version is your Eye-Fi card at (The cards I used for testing at set at 4.5166)? What firmware version is your camera (Our test Canon T1i is set at 1.1.0)?

Could you please post a card log? Here are instructions:

1. Insert your Eye-Fi Card into your camera
2. Wait for the camera to load (In this case, just leave the T1i on for about 1 minute)
3. Take pictures if possible and allow them to upload
4. Remove the card from your camera
5. Insert the Eye-Fi Card into the USB card reader and into your computer
6. Click on the Eye-Fi Helper icon in the Apple Menu Bar or in the Windows Task Bar
7. Select "Get Eye-Fi Card Log..." from the menu. You may have to wait several seconds, but, in a moment, you will be asked where to save the Eye-Fi Card log file
8. Save the Eye-Fi Card.log file to your computer hard drive and reply to this thread or PM me with your log file attached

Canon T1i I was using firmware 1.1.0 then after your e-mail, I updated to the latest 1.1.1

Still no luck?

Like I said the camera does not even turn on with this eyefi card? all my other cards work fine, this one makes the camera act like it has no batteries (dead) but worse as I have to remove the batteries in order for it to work it all after inserting one of my normal cards. I even tried some min SD cards in SD adapters that have never been in my camera, they work fine.

I hope you can help...

Thanks

Looks like the card is not functioning properly and is spitting out a dump file. The dump file contains information for us to diagnose the issue. Here is what I saw in your card log:

[00:00] Eye-Fi firmware 4.5166 Sep 19 2011 10:38:57 started (2), hardware revision 1, CID "DD2G4M", 3886/32 MB, 00-18-56-25-10-c4
[00:00] Saving dump from previous boot to file /private/crshdump/dump2
[00:00] Previous assertion failure: <none> in function <unknown>, file eyefi_sd_slave.c at line 480

Best bet here is to RMA your card. Create a ticket with support and post your ticket number here. I will expedite your RMA process. I will have your card sent to me and I will take a closer look when I receive it.

Ok, the problem is I already created a ticket

(I filled out a ticket #51592) <--- From my 1st post

2nd is I just bought this card from best buy, this is the second card as the 1st did not work and acted the same way. If I go through the whole RMA process and we never get it to work what then? It will be too late to get it returned to best buy to get my money back, so i will have a card I can not use.

So my question really is if you can not get it working by the RMA process, will I get my money back?

I just don't want a SD card paperweight.

Thanks....

copc,

Thanks for your response, I am caught up on your support ticket as well.

I have a few more questions.

The card log that you last sent to me, is that from the card you have now or from the one your returned to best buy?

Have you installed any other software on the Canon T1i such as Magic Lantern? Is there any special software on the card?

How old is your Canon T1i battery? How old is your T1i?

That is a log from the card last night, so the one I currently have.

Only factory firmware, Card is stock.

Bought T1i end of last year, I have 3 batteries. I have tried all three. (two in my canon grip, one in factory slot.)

copc,

We built a special firmware for your card. I want to see if this solves your issue. Please insert your card in the card reader and plug it into your computer. Open Eye-Fi Center and update your card. It should be marked to be updated to 4.5168. Go ahead and update it, then insert the card in your T1i. Let me know how it goes.

You said that you have a Panasonic camera that works with the card. Can you format the card in the Panasonic and then try it with the T1i again?

My 500d will not power on with my new X2 Pro card in either. Need to pull the battery to get it to work again.

The X2 works in my Canon G10...
