Share your iOS feature requests here

iPhone related discussion relating to the Eye-Fi app for the iPhone

Re: Share your iOS feature requests here

Postby fsartono » Tue Aug 23, 2011 10:12 pm

At the moment once I've transferred Picture-XYZ to say iPhone-A, I can't transfer that same Picture-XZY to another iOS device, say iPhone-B, iPad-C, and so on.

Can we please have this functionality?

Even better, if from the iOS App we can view the pictures on the Eye-Fi card and select the ones we want to transfer to our iOS device, that would be most ideal.

Thank you.

I would like to see support for photoapplink added to everything! I just discovered it when updating one of my photo apps and checked out the website, really, really cool. I would love to be able to take a photo with my Eye-Fi, have it show up on my phone and be able to send it directly to an image editing app.

Please add support for photoapplink

2) An option not to display photo gallery when I open the app. Maybe another screen like Status screen (e.g. connected to wifi card if direct mode), connected to eye-fi server, number of photos not yet on eyefi server, number of photos not yet transferred to flickr/desktop or external sites)

Geotagging during direct mode import using IOS GPS data.

I've even found the code online to accomplish this from the iOS sdk.

I'm no programmer, but I can't image it being too difficult to take that code verbatim and integrate it into your app.

PM or email me if you want me to send you the URL.

iOS 5 is out, are we going to finally see the ability to transfer to a specific folder vs. the Camera Roll?

Terrel from your Support staff just told me you coded real-time, direct-mode Geotagging support into the Android App. When will it be available for IOS?

This is inaccurate information. Separately, it is true that we always have a number of features coming down the pipeline across all of our supported platforms, desktop or mobile, but we don't comment on specific release dates for any specific feature.

Thanks,

Hi Berend. Thank you for your reply. Terrell said the same. But unless I misunderstood him, he did say the geotagging is already part of the android app, but not the IOS app and that it is company policy not to comment on product development or roadmaps. So perhaps my misunderstanding was not so much of a future misunderstanding afterall???

Thank you for the great, innovative products. I'll just have to wait on the sideline to upgrade or buy a new card until you decide to release the feature ( namely geotagging on direct mode import via IOS GPS) I and probably many others ate looking/ anticipating for.

Best regards,

Greg

This part is correct. Until iOS 5 came out, iOS did not permit apps to modify the photos inserted into the camera roll once they were inserted and given that Eye-Fi's WPS-based geo-tagging (which is what's available in the Android app today) relies on making contact with the Eye-Fi servers to resolve the Wi-Fi access point lists into GPS-like coordinates, we could not implement it cleanly on iOS (we'd either have to hold the photos until we've resolve the geo tags, which may be a long time if you're away from 3G/4G or are on a Wi-Fi-only device which is using its Wi-Fi connection for Direct Mode, or we'd have to deliver duplicates, one before geo-tagging and one after). In contrast, on Android, we indeed modify the photos in the media library possible long after they've been delivered, once the geo-tags are available.

You suggested that you heard from support that the Android app had "real time" phone-GPS-based geo-tagging, which is not accurate. The confusion is about having WPS-based geo-tagging support in the Android vs iOS apps.

Obviously we'll start taking advantage of the new features in iOS 5, but I can't be more specific than that.

Berend

P.S.: Having said all of this, the photos that flow automatically from your Eye-Fi Card to your iOS device and up into Eye-Fi View or web sharing destinations do get geo-tags inserted into them because the necessary information flows with the data that's on its way to the Eye-Fi servers without relying on what's been delivered into the iOS camera roll.

Direct mode and Internet log in

I am a newbie please dont shoot me on my first attempt :D
i love the iphone app but

1 . for direct usage why cant the Settings be stored on the iphone ??
logging in each time and setting up is tedious and way too long !

2 . logginginto the internet when direct option seems a bit pointless especially for photographers in remote places that might need to upload and send once in signal range again !
(which means direct mode in fringe or remote places is really a waste of time) .

* some photographers just want to send pictures via email instead of the eye fi server*

this message has also been posted posted as an ios topic

thats it
keep up the good work lads : )
cheers from downunder

i have my system set to direct download as a fall back if all other methods are not available granted i cannot change wich device it transfers too without internet access but sofar this is suitable for my needs.

you may also consider adding a releltively cheap portable wireless router such as the Edup EP-9501N wich runs on old nokia mobile phone batteries and gives me a wireless hotpsot any were i like and if i plug my 3g dongle into it i even have internet were ever there is mobile phone signal i baught mine off Ebay for less than £30 inc shipping and there are also products that work in the same way and have 3g built into them such as the Three Mifi

I would very much like to see the images tagged with the iDevice's GPS coordinates when available, with a fall-back to WPS. I recognize that not all iDevices have GPS, but presumably your app can figure that out and use only WPS with an iTouch for example. I also recognize that the image may not be transferred from the camera at the location where the image was taken, but it seems to me that comparing time stamps would let you sort that out -- i.e. if the time stamp of the image is less than, say, 1 minute old then use the iDevice's GPS coordinates; otherwise, use WPS. Alternately, you could make use of a GPS track log if we were willing to devote the battery power necessary to maintaining one.

I'd be willing to pay EyeFi's geotagging fee (either upgrade or Pro) in order to have access to this service, though it would obviously be great if you wanted to throw it in for free with the iOS app :)

There's actually another app on iOS which you can see the EXIF info, search EXIF in Appstore.

But of course, it would probably be better and easier for Eye-fi to implement this feature in their app.

I wish that the iOS app would just delete RAW file data once it's been uploaded since I can't do anything with the RAW in iOS. It might be nice if it stripped out and retained the preview thumbnail in the raw, if any, but i'd say its more important that it have the option to just delete raw files altogether once they're no longer needed.

Also, I'd rather not see anything from the eyefi app in my Camera Roll unless I explicitly ask it to save stuff there (either a global "save to camera roll" option is turned on, or I've selected photos and hit "save to camera roll"). Instead it would be better for me anyway if images and such were first saved in the 'Documents' directory of the app's file sandbox where they could be downloaded via iTunes Sharing if desired. That way I have the option of not uploading anywhere (not even Photo Stream) and just copying the files off with iTunes (unmolested by the Camera Roll) and it's possible for the app to actually delete stuff which it can't do with the Camera Roll.

Having written iPhone apps, I'm pretty sure this would be really easy to do.....

Can we have support for 1080p video for Nikon D7000.

Currently I can shoot and upload 720p videos from my Nikon D7000 to my IOS 4.3.x iTouch via Direct Mode, but anything higher resolution than that and my IOS device complains about incompatible video formats and nothing gets uploaded.

 Synchro between all devices.

I have an Ipad, an iphone a eye-fi sd card and a computer (of course). I would like that I take a photo on my nikon camera(sd card) then I can view the photo on the ipad or computer (or iphone). Then I take a photo on my iphone and I can see it on my ipad or computer... same for the ipad, if I take a photo I can watch it on the computer or iphone.

All the devices should be completely synchronised, if I take my camera and ipad on the field the photo should be transfered by direct mode to the ipad, but upon returning home and detecting the wifi network all devices should have the same photos.

The only option I don't care is sending photos from the iphone to the sd card, but to do properly we should have an option to synch in or out so that we could choose how each device will synch with the other devices.

 ex: ipad (in - activated, out - deactivated) should mean that the ipad will receive photos from the other devices (sd, iphone) but the photos taken on the ipad will not be send to any other devices.

The app can use some polish. For one, it's a great App to receive photos from the card but not to manage and share them. It'd be amazing if the App stored the photos within itself instead of relaying them to the Photo Gallery on the device. The main disadvantage to this is that users with "Photo Stream" enabled will have the photos sent to the cloud and pushed to all their other devices, even RAW. I'm not entirely against that (as it's an easy way to uploading all the photos to my computer when I get home) but it's space on the cloud I don't need to waste when I only have 5GB's and an 8GB card that fills up! If you utilize the API from Apple more, you'll find E-mail, Twitter, and others. You can also integrate Facebook.

Secondly, I find it odd that I manage the card from the web when on my iOS device. Is it not possible to connect via a localhost or an ADHOC protocol to the card? What makes connecting to the eye.fi website different that connecting directly to the card? It'd help save on data usage for those who have caped data plans, iPod Touches or simply have Cellular Data turned off (Roaming? Overseas?) and wish to change a setting or two. Is it possible to move that to within the application?

As for feature requests, I'd love, and I really mean it, to have it directly upload photos to FTP (and other services) automatically when on WiFi just like the desktop client. If I could save my FTP servers to my iOS device and select which ones to upload to, when on WiFi that'd be amazing. Add in resizing for a bonus! Another request is that the badges reset after a while. I've had "55" stuck next to the application for a few days now and no idea how to reset it. That's something I think would be remedied if the App used it's own internal system for managing photos.

Hi all, I'm using the card with an Olympus linear recorder... It works great with videos, even though I hate the auto upload/no way to choose what to transfer function, and my recorder also has a sound only drive.
I was wondering if you could update the app so it sends audio files too.

Thx

For the iPhone app, I would love to see a 'refresh' or 'check for new items' button. A lot of times after I've taken new photos I have to force close the app, re-select the direct mode's wifi network, and restart the app to get it to recognize the new pictures. Some sort of refresh/check connection/check for new transfers button would be very valuable.

This was recommended over a year ago. It makes no sense why we have to manage the settings on a physical device from a PC at home when on the road or anywhere else.
It also makes no sense why selective transfer is set up the way it is. The whole step of protecting pictures for selective transfer is just completely unnecessary. The app should simply open all the files on the device as thumbnails and give you an option to "transfer all new" or individually choose photos. If I forget to put my device in selective transfer, and then I'm out on the road and want to just transfer a couple photos I took rather than the whole 200 I'm out of luck. There should never be a point where I suddenly don't want to use the features of my card because it's far too bothersome.

It would be nice, if the app had functionality for FTP directly from the app - not needing to go through the Eye-Fi servers via Relayed Transfer. This may save time on the user end, faster uploads to the destination, since the route taken is one hop shorter, limit bandwidth used on the Eye-Fi servers, and provide the ability to see FTP transfer status/errors directly in the ap. I know this is a departure from how relayed transfer is set up today, but other apps like Photogene2 has this functionality.

Here are a few things I would love to see. Feel free to let me know if it's currently possible.

1.) More detailed status info on automatic file transfers. I have NO IDEA if my pics are transferring to my home computer once I'm home. I usually end up selecting them all again and sending them to my laptop, just so I can see a progress bar. I would love a seperate screen with
a.) x pics pending transfer
b.) connection status (i.e. connected to "home wifi")
c.) x of y pics transferred
d.) % of current pic transferring
e.) PAUSE current transfer

2.) Dont' put the pics on the camera roll. At the very least, allow us to choose whether we want them saved on the camera roll or in the app. If I understand previous replies, this may solve the deleting pics within app problem too. I think a selective "send to camera roll' option would be nice for those that want it. Just add another option under the "share" link. Once this is implemented you should be able to incorporate and "auto delete" feature, as you won't be deleting from the camera roll, but rather from within the app. A HUGE MUST IMO.

3.) If 1 is implemented, allow us to turn off badges. As I would much rather be able to open the app and see succinct data on what's happening to my transfers. Even if you don't implement 1. still allow me to turn off the badges. They truly don't provide any data, I still have to check my computer to see if the pics are transfering there and what pics are sent.

4.) Allow me to send cards to iOS when away from my wi-fi from the Eye-Fi card, BUT still allow them to trasnfer via direct mode FROM THE CARD, once I'm back on my home network. Avoid using the app to transfer pics to my computer at all. Honestly if you would just implement this, you could forget about 1, as it would be a moot point.

This APP is great and so is the Eye-Fi card.It was AWESOME being able to take pics with my extended family this past weekend and simply pass around my iPhone to everyone and let them see the pics, instead of my bulky, expensive camera. However it was a HEADACHE trying to figure out what was happening to my pics once I got home.

Finally, I haven't seen any replies to this thread this year... are you guys still reading it??

Thanks!
