Canon 500d / Rebel T1i

Discussion related to cameras used with your Eye-Fi Card

This is dumb. Here is the email I sent to Canon US Support:

I have a Canon 500d and an Eye-Fi X2 PRO card. When I put the card in the camera it will not turn on. I have to pull the camera battery to get it to start once the Eye-fi card is removed.

The website below states you are aware of this and have a fix.

Here is a reply I got from Canon US:

Thank you for contacting Canon product support. We value you as a Canon customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you. We are sorry to hear that you are having memory card issues with your EOS Rebel XSI.
We have not tested the eyefi cards with the EOS Rebel XSI, nor do we have any kind of policy for fixing any issues with these cards. The eyefi cards will work with our EOS Rebel T1i, T2i, T3, and T3i. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with your EOS Rebel XSi.
Thank you for choosing Canon.

Sincerely,
Nathan

The XSi is a 450d. AS you can see in my email I have a 500d.

Here is the next amazing email in the story. I have highlighted the important part. Bear in mind this is me asking Canon SUpport to help me with this issue.

Dear Beynon Garet:

We appreciate your continued correspondence regarding the use of an Eye-fi card with your EOS Digital Rebel T1i.
When used with an Eye-Fi card, the Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i / 500D / Kiss X3 stays powered on until wireless media uploads are complete.
Eye-Fi and Canon have identified an issue in a small subset of Canon SLR cameras where a user inserts an Eye-Fi X2 card and the camera appears to not power on. In order to solve the problem, Canon support services must service affected cameras to eliminate the behavior.
Eye-Fi customers who are experiencing this problem are urged to contact Canon support. Canon support will arrange to service affected cameras so that they will properly work with Eye-Fi X2 cards.

The Eye-Fi card comes ready to be configured in a USB reader. The software you’ll need to get started is included. Pop the Eye-Fi card and the USB reader in your computer to get started in minutes.
I hope this information is helpful to you. Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with your EOS Digital Rebel T1i. Thank you for choosing Canon.
Sincerely,
James

At first I was very amused seeing this memory card but when I actually bought it; The thing is the software took about 30 minutes to download and I used this with my 500D it's okay at first but suddenly I felt more disappointed cause when the 1st shot was uploading it took morethan 5 minutes before it was totally uploaded same with the 2nd shot. Then the 3rd was a fast but when I turn my cam to RAW again it's as slow as the 1st shot then I immediately turned it to M and it took 4 shots before it begins uploading and the fact that the RAW isn't finished uploading at all. Those 4 shots uploaded for 8 minutes then the RAW uploaded 3 minutes after those 4 shots.

Yet even more disappointing is with the Ad Hoc connection. If the earlier statement was worse then this time it's even worst! because believe it or not it took almost twice the time mentioned earlier and this was the reason why I purchase this memory cause I thought it will perform if not good or well but I was totally disappointed and shocked that after spending my savings that was supposedly allotted for a different brand of memory card I chose and stupidly bought this card.

I don't know what to say nor what kind of reaction will I show to my photography peers and some closed professional photographers after having this card. I volunteered and told them that I'll be the one to test it so they'll know it's performance and so if things isn't quite well, in my case is very worst then they don't need to buy this brand at all.

Eye-Fi please take note of this problem. I don't want to ruin your reputation with my peers! They are actually waiting for my post/answers and review with your product and I don't want to tell them my bad experiences yet so as not to disappoint them and as much as possible I want to share your products with my friends but of course it will only happen if you can help me with this matters!

Hoping for your immediate response!

Thanks,

Raisin.

Any update on t1i and eye fi card transfer speed? It's definitely slow and not normal as I also tried it on Panasonic lx5, which uploads pictures in reasonable time. My eye fi inside t1i world take at least 5 minutes fir first picture to be uploaded to eye fi server and the latter pictures aren't any faster either.. at first I thought it's the file size, which will make upload longer on same network but it's still the same even I change t1i picture to M or even S.. please look into this issue..
