Geotagging with Canon Rebel T2i

Postby iamryfly on Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:39 pm

So I just got an Eye-Fi mobile X2 card and before I spend the $30 upgrading to geotagging I want to ask a quick question.

I am using the card with a Canon Rebel T2i which has an integrated spot in the settings for Eye-Fi cards. My issue is that I like to leave the Eye-Fi disabled so that I can review the pictures on the camera first and then enable it to upload all of the good shots at once. If I leave the Eye-Fi card disabled under the T2i's settings will it still look for wifi info to triangulate a location after each individual shot? Or do I need to leave the card enabled all the time?

Thanks in advance for your help!

While I can't definitively answer your T2i specific question directly, I can provide an alternate workflow that may get you the desired result. The feature is called "Selective Transfer." You utilize the camera "Lock" function to designate the "good shots." Then, when you camera is able to connect to WiFi, only those photos will transfer to your computer/online destination.

See:

If I had to guess to the answer of your initial question about whether geotagging will work on the T2i with the Eye-Fi card disabled from the camera firmware, my guess is geotagging would not work.

I hope that helps.
