Problem Updating to Latest Firmware (4.5002 to 5.0001)

Postby simv » Tue Mar 06, 2012 6:10 am

Hi

I am having an issue updating the firmware on my Eye-fi Card. I have the latest Eye-fi Center installed on a full up to date Windows 7 machine, however the Eye-fi Center stalls on the "Downloading Firmware" message and never gets any further. The Red LED on the Eye-fi Card reader alternates between flashing and steady but never changes. I have let this go for about half an hour with no results, and have tried restarting my machine, different USB ports etc.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Cheers,

Simon

What revision Eye-Fi reader are you using? On the back you'll see EYEFI-RDR-REV-F, where the last letter indicates the reader revision. It may be the case that the reader is failing during the firmware update process.

Does your card still function normally in your camera as far as reading/writing? If so, I would suggest formatting the card in your camera (backup anything pertinent beforehand), and then try the firmware update again and report back with your results.

Thanks,
Joe

I'm having a similar issue trying to update my Explore X2 8GB card from 4.5174 to 5.0001.

It will say "downloading firmware..." for several minutes and then change to "Firmware update to (card) failed. Please re-insert (card) and try again. Contact support if the problem persists."

I'm using a Rev-D card reader.

Please assist.

This updating process has turned into a complete nightmare for multiple cards.

We have 1 card with 5.0001 on it wanting to update to 5.0007 we have multiple readers all readers are EYEFI-RDR-REV-V

Another is a "new" card with 4.xxxxx something on it all attempts on multiple machines give this same looping message as indicated in the previous post.

Pull the card and reinsert it if error continues get a hold of support which takes us to a page where we can't just download & just FORCE FEED THIS silly card.

All our cards are 4 Gig Connect X-2 cards purchased at the same time.

We have tried multiple cards and eye-fi readers on multiple machines all Windows 7 32 bit NO FIREWALLS enabled, NO AV Enabled; including a fresh install attempt on my field notebook; which is a pristean base windows install with drivers (and now eye-fi looping update hell)

Obviously, at one point, the card with 5.0001 did update; since the card was purchased at the same time as the other one with 4.xxxxxx on it, but the 4.xxx was never deployed until now and only because the original card stopped uploading the pics to a local machine like it had been for the last few months.

RE-CAP

We have 4 cards all the same, of them:

1isn't deployed at all yet; another shelf spare;

1 works like it should (we're afraid to run it's update), or we might have none out of 4 working;

1 stopped working, ie updating across our local network to it's assigned workstation (which is why we tried to deploy one of the spares) yet we are able to use in our camera and manually copy pics off of it or erase it if need;

and the last card was just opened to deploy and also won't update from 4.x to 5.0007 like the one that stopped uploading: regardless of which Eye-Fi reader is used.

We DO NOT and NEVER WILL upload our pics beyond our own IntraNet internal to our organization; though all machines can properly read and write to any usb drive, we we're even able to download pics from the one that stopped network uploading to its assigned machine and all appear to see the Eye-Fi "server" and we're able to add and delete cards from accounts properly without issue.

We can't get by the updating it's firmware process on either or get either to use our wireless network to upload photos automatically.

Something is seriously broken with this entire process.

Please respond ASAP; we are (where) actually use this concept for productive work (until now).

I'm having the exact same problem with a 4G Connect X2 using the built-in card reader in my Dell XPS L502x laptop (which worked fine for every previous firmware update) or my Rev-D Eye-Fi card reader.

(I could be totally wrong, but my gut instinct is that the Eye-Fi Center isn't succeeding in downloading 5.001 from their server...)

Same problem. I have a v card reader. I'm also finding that not all pictures are downloading to my iPad. But they are online at Eye-fi View.

Re: Same Problem 4.5174 to 5.0001 (Pro X2 Card 8GB)

Postby Cougfan » Sun Mar 11, 2012 8:53 pm

Tried it on both my Mac and Windows 7 machine. Each time is says the update is "downloading" and then says the update fails and asks me to reinsert the card.

I've tried with an older (1st generation) reader, and my v.4 reader. Neither works.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I've contacted support this morning and they asked for a log, by the time I got the instructions to generate the log and try to retrieve one, the download and firmware update install process worked as it should have.

Both cards we where having issues with have flawlessly updated without me doing more than what I did yesterday - repeatedly on multiple workstations. VivianM's comment likely hit the nail on the head as to the issue itself (Vivian your name is very dear too me, as it was my Mom's and yesterday she would have been 100 yrs old - So, Happy birthday Mom !!! and all the best to you VivianM and great "gut" instincts).

Anyone having this general issue should try again and if still having the problems; please send your card log, per supports instructions below, to them so they can help you with your specific need.

You can start a ticket from inside eye-fi helper icon; the same place below you grab the eye-fi card log, under "report a problem".

Thank you for contacting Eye-Fi Customer Care.
Please provide me with the following information so that I may troubleshoot your issue further:
Eye-Fi card log recovery process:
1. Insert the Eye-Fi card into the USB card reader and into your computer
2. Click on the Eye-Fi Helper icon in the Apple Menu Bar or in the Windows Task Bar
3. Select "Get Eye-Fi card Log..." from the menu. You may have to wait several seconds, but, in a moment, you will be asked where to save the Eye-Fi card log file
4. Save the Eye-Fi card.log file to your computer hard drive and reply to this e-mail with your log file attached
I look forward to your reply and helping resolve your problem.
Kind regards,
Keon
