Just make sure that you're on fw Version 1.2.5 in your 7D, and report back.

Thx.

hey there mates!

i've been able to setup the eye-fi connect x2 4GB with my 5D MK II and the DELOCK Adapter CF II. AT first it worked without any problems. the card imediatly connected to my pc and Android Tablet and started transfering the pictures.

after some (small JPG's) it stopped transferring. after i restarted my 5D it started transferring again. I removed the 2 metal plates from the delock adapter without any major difference. direct mode works for 8-9 meters wich is far enough for my needs. but i still have the restarting issue. Is it possible that this is because of my type of Eye-fi card? could it be better to use the eye-fi pro 8GB ? any ideas ?

i plan to make an instruction Video for youtube wich is up to date. Thanks for any help!

greets!

Have you changed the power settings on your 5DmkII, to not power off after the default 3-5 minutes?

Hey!

Yes i've done that. one question to the Delock adapter. There is another metal plate right above the SD-card lot. should i also remove this one ? or only the 2 ones on the outer side.

regards!

You can't remove that one. It's the sleeve that holds the SD card. By removing the 2 outer metal plates -- you're increasing the RF range.

So if you've already changed the power settings in the 5DmkII and the uploads stop after a while, just look at the card's firmware log, and see what happens. The firmware records time stamps of how long it's up. If you keep seeing it reset to 00.00 you'll know that power is still being cut off.

To debug this whole thing -- put the card into a normal SD/SDHC camera, and see if the behavior is the same. You can't call our support guys, if you use a CF body, so just make sure that you're debugging with an SD camera, and then, when the whole system works, put the card into the 5DmkII and keep experimenting.

Just receive the adapter (one with the green circle labelled "SDHC/SD Extreme CF Adapter")

Round 1:
----------
1st shot: work, Raw+jpeg transferred to ipad right away via direct mode
2nd shot: didn't transfer, might have lost connection to ipad due to camera timeout or something.
3rd shot: Err 02

Round 2:
----------
- Upgrade from firmware 1.2.3 to 1.2.5
- Increased timeout on camera
- Removed metal plates from adapter
1st shot: Err 02
2nd shot: No error but don't think it tried to write to the card (no red light on back of camera)
3rd shot: Err 02

Round 3:
-----------
- swapped eye-fi card for standard SD card
1st shot: worked (no errors, wrote to card and can view photo)
2nd shot: worked
3rd shot: worked
...
7th shot: still working (shot last 3 in burst mode)
...
15th shot: still working (shot last 8 in burst mode)
...
22nd shot: yup, still working (again in burst mode)

Round 4:
-----------
- put eye-fi card in Sanyo point and shoot that takes SD natively.
1st shot: worked
2nd shot: worked
3rd shot: worked
....
5th shot: worked

Round 5:
-----------
- put eye-fi back in adapter and 7d
- took several more shots. about 80% failed with Err 02

Round 6:
----------
- formatted card in 7d and adapter, don't think I had done this initially. was still format from Sanyo camera from earlier testing before adapter arrived.
1st and 2nd shot: failed, Err 02
3rd - 5th shots: successful (wrote to card, transfered fine to iPad)
6th, 7th shots: failed Err 02

Conclusion:
-------------
The eye-fi card just doesn't like to be in the adapter. :P Oh, and the adapter seems to get warm while sitting in the 7d, even with a standard SD card.

Also,

I later got "Cannot Create Folder" after an Err 02 and then got the "Cleaning Sensor" message which usually only happens when you turn the camera on or off but it stayed on. When I try to take more shots I get "Full CF" on the top LCD and "Cannot Create Folder" again on back LCD.

Checking the stats on the card actually shows the card is full. Restarting the camera makes the stats show the proper space usage again but now the top LCD just shows "Full" (not "Full CF") and "Cannot create folder" on back again.

The Eye-fi card isn't detected in my USB SD card reader. But after I put it back in the 7d it started working again (without even formatting again).

FYI I've been shooting full RAW + small jpeg this whole time. Shooting just small jpeg doesn't seem to make a difference.

It works for the Canon 50D

Postby LordThanos » Sun Mar 18, 2012 9:51 am

Hi all -

Yes! I can confirm that the set-up -- 8GB Pro Eye-Fi Card + ESDCFII Extreme CF Adapter (the one with the blue circles) -- works for the Canon 50D. I ordered from Amazon and was up and running about an hour after opening the packages. As others have suggested, I took the metal plates off the adapter. I took both plates off -- overkill perhaps, but what the hell.

Caveats:
1. I haven't done any testing of ranges or duration of the signal. What I know so far is that the connection works when I'm in my house (sitting 10 feet from my router) and in my classroom (again, sitting 10 feet from my router). And that's good enough for my needs.
2. The direct connection also works. BUT I only tested it in my car, with my iPad sitting two feet away. Again, good enough for my needs.
3. As you can see, I'm a casual photographer. I'm not worried about professional applications or shooting weddings or being out in the field all day taking hundreds of shots. I'm not trying to max out the capabilities of the card or the adapter, so I can't comment on how rigorous the set-up is.

All I wanted was a simple way to get photos from my camera to my laptop and iPad without fiddling with wires or repeatedly taking the CF card out of the camera. And that's what I've got.

The hardware's working fine for me. The only snags are sorting out where the photos go. On my iPad, I have the Eye-Fi app, ShutterSnitch, and iPhoto and I'm trying to figure out how they can all play nicely together. But these are small problems.

Also: I realize there are a lot of pros/semi-pros on this board. Please don't mock me for being a casual user with way more camera than I need for my simple uses. My wife has that job!

Anyway... it works for me. Happy to answer any questions you have.

Returned the 8GB Pro model since I had so many problems but wanted to keep experimenting so I grabbed a cheaper Connect version for the time being.

Did some more testing really quickly. Seems when the Err 02 comes up the Eye-Fi card looses power or cuts out in some other way. I notice the Eye-Fi wireless network disappear from the iPad when that happens so I suspect at the very least the Eye-Fi card has been rebooted.

Also Err 02 only seems to occur in direct mode which makes me suspect that some other comments I've seen about the card drawing too much power in some cases possible. Rattled off 20+ shots out of the box (i.e. no networking setup) and it worked fine. Set it up to attach to a local wireless network (although it never did connect properly) and again it was fine. Only saw Err 02 when I setup direct mode.

Bit the bullet and upgraded the firmware. Still works in my 7d AND it appears the percentage of Err 02 errors has dropped significantly. I have more experimenting to do but it looks like I only get Err 02 about 20% of the time instead of 80% as before. Stay tuned for more.

Sandisk Eye-Fi 4GB + Delock adapter + 5D MKII works.

I have one problem though. Is it possible to make so that the iPad and the card connects automaticly to direct mode every time? I don't want to use the WIFI connection at all because I have to use direct mode at my house too since the WIFI connection is so low in some rooms that it takes like 2 minutes to upload the photo. With direct mode and small JPG the picture uploads in few seconds from 2-3m away. The WIFI is good within 5 metres from the router but useless outside that area.

I'd like to go Eye-Fi on a 7D and I also have a Sony A77.

All i want is to see a JPED move from my camera to the Windows 7 Laptop as quickly as possible.
I am confused by your product range.
Q.1 I believe I only need the Connect X2 to get 'direct mode', which I think means the Eye-Fi cards starts it's own little network?

Q2. In Europe I understand the cards are Marketed by Sandisk [which I generally stadardise on for all cards/readers - so I like that] But they seem to have a 4GB and an 8 Gb and there seems to be no way to see if this is a Connect or Pro or even X2. Could you equate the two for me please?

Q3. If I set it up on my BT Infinity hi speed 65 Mbps wi fi router will it transfer files faster?
Q4. Is it true if I set it up on my wireless netork all my pictures are routed through your server, and that the process automatically opens my firewall to give Eye-Fi access to it and even if I change my permissions you still have open access to my home network?

Q5. Have you semi officially removed the 7D from the unofficial/unsupported might work list of UDMA compliant cameras - sorry spent a day reading though 8 pages then skipped to the last page and it seems to be back on?

Q6. To viz [I believe you were a co founder of Eye-Fi - am I correct?]
I still don't get it there must be millions of pro and prosumer CF UDMA compliant DSLR's out there with owners willing to invest say £150 for a working eye-fi solution [with something like a 32 Gig 95 mb/s storage]. Yet you guys at Eye- Fi seems to religiously think %'s of SD v CF carded new cameras.
A few things for you to consider if I may:-
i] I don't think so many point and shoot users who spent circa £250 on a camera will spend £90 on Eye-Fi; especially as they probably already have an iPhone/Samsung with an 8MPs camera on board already connected!
Whereas the CF DSLR 'keen amateur', who has proved his spending power, by buying the camera in the first place and the lenses!, needs this card to check his image quality - the point and shoot doesn't.
ii] The in phone cameras will go through the roof in the next 3 years, my point being Eye-Fi connecting a point and shoot or low-mid range DSLR won't be such a USP.
iii] Check out the survey on camera brand loyalty i.e. % of Canon owners who have parents who owned a Canon? - it is the strongest by a long way of any market sector. Try applying this principle to 5DMk II & 7D Users, i.e. look after us now and we stick with you.
iv] Closed minded company's with great ideas tend to attract competition; who steal their concept and improve on it, and then eventually eclipse the original.
Come on think outside the box; do a deal with Sandisk - get them to fund the development of the CF Adapter/Eyefi card that does work in a UDMA CF compliant Canon or Nikon etc! Get some funding from Canon and Nikon and Sony! You say you know the guys at that mfg company that makes the most likely to work CF adapter cards a] Ask them to make one with plastic sides! No more leaving us to prise off the metal backs and fronts [and endangering our cameras]. This would be so simple to arrange! Maybe give them the manufacturing job for Sandisk. Basically get creative.
Why bother?
A) - because if you do, I think you will be surprised how many people will buy it if it really worked well!
B) - these users will stick with you. And they are vocal, they are the ones who bother to post on the forums [er the same forums the casual user checks just before buying his new camera].
c] If you don't then someone will spring up with a new competing idea and these currently unsupported users will desert you in a heart beat.

Finally what would be so difficult about making a CF version, surely you are 95% there!

Hi All,

We are the manufacturer of the CF adapter, not a reseller or a distributor.
We are the original manufacturer in Taiwan.
The latest CF adapter (labeled as 3rd Generation-green label- or 4th Generation-purple label- Extreme CF adapter) can work on following DSLRs.

- Canon EOS 300D
- Canon EOS 400D
- Canon EOS 10D
- Canon EOS 20D
- Canon EOS 30D
- Canon EOS 40D
- Canon EOS 50D
- Canon EOS 7D
- Canon EOS 1D Mark IV
- Canon EOS 1Dx
- Canon EOS 1Ds
- Canon EOS 1D Mark II
- Canon EOS 1D Mark II N
- Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II
- Canon EOS 1D Mark III
- Canon EOS 5D Mark III
- Canon EOS 5D Mark II
- Canon EOS 5D
- NIKON D70
- NIKON D200
- HASSELBLAD CFH 39 Digital Back +H2
- SIGMA SD9
- SIGMA SD10

The model on the list are still increasing.

Among the DSLRs above, most of them can also work with Eye-Fi X2, like 50D / 7D / 5D2 / 1Dx / 1Ds / 1D2N / 1D2 / 1Ds2 and so on.
We have some problem on the first lot MP product, they may have compatibility issue with Eye-Fi X2 on DSLRs.
(read this thread http://forums.eye.fi/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1777&start=30, a user "K Hartman" also report this issue with latest adapter, I also replied him. )
However after doing a firmware update (for CF adapter), the issue can be fixed on most of the adapters.
The firmware and update tool is here. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/48171385/SDCF_Gen3_AP_V3.zip
All you need is a USB interface CF reader to do the firmware update.
Please join our FACEBOOK fans club for more info http://www.facebook.com/SDCF4I5
We can guarantee that those testing videos on the wall are 100% real, shot by users, and tested with first lot MP product.
At the beginning those users may also meet compatibility issue with EYE-Fi X2, but all fixed after the firmware update (for adapter).

Everyone who is looking for Type II CF adapter for using Eye-Fi, must give a try on latest CF adapter.
The latest CF adapter (labeled as 3rd gen or 4th gen) is based on a brand new controller, totally different with old extreme CF adapter.
You can google "SDCF4I5" then you can find our fans club, you can get more info of buying and using the latest adapter.

THANK YOU.

Hi Phil
If you have solved this issue CONGRATULATIONS I will spread the word like wildfire so please understand my questions are vital to any user looking to buy a working solution.

Q1. You are saying that my 7D will work with a Eye-Fi Connect X2 or Pro X2. As long as I have the 3rd Generation or 4th Generation Card [as denoted on the package] Is that right? Is that using 7D firmware 1.25 or the latest Ver. 2.0?
Q2. Can this work with the Sandisk Eye-Fi Card 4GB? - I only wanted to know as this is a cheaper version. Forgive my cynicism but so many people have said they can make it work and then one gets problems!
Q3. I am a little confused as K Hartman says he has the 4th Genertation card - so he should not have had a problem - but he did. Was this because he was on the [very recently released 24th Aug 2012] latest 7D Firmware O/S i.e. Ver. 2?
Q4. You say you answered him by saying that there is an upgrade fix - will this mean if I buy a 3rd or 4th generation Card it will work with a 7D on Firmware Ver 1.25 but if I upgrade the firmware on the 7D to Ver 2.0, you have a fix? and it works?
Q5. I understand that the latest [Version 2.0] 7D firmware version has a bug in it; and Canon will no doubt have to fix it [as it can cause the 7D to freeze], when they do I will upgrade to Version 2.01 or whatever it is.
[b] Is your company committed to providing a fix for that?- NB. as it is such a major upgrade most 7D users will want that - and interestingly for you as a Manufacturer the Ver 2.0 firmware Upgrade is intended to extend the life of the 7D for some time.

What would be good for us all is if you could arrange/encourage someone to sell this on Amazon UK and US - clearly stating this is the direct supply of known working cards for Eye- Fi [a sort of Eye-Fi certified product]

I Look forward to your reply
Best Regards

Hi Phil

Q1 What is the difference between the 3rd and 4th generation adapters?
[I realise you have stated both the 3rd and 4th generation adapters are an all new design.

Q2. Does the latest shipping 4th generation adapter come with the new fix for 7D firmware Ver 2.0, or do we still have to upgrade this?

Best regards

Thanks for your support, and I will answer your questions as many as I can.

Yes, your 7D can work with Eye-Fi Connect X2 / Mobile X2 / Pro X2 / Sandisk Eye-Fi 4GB / Sandisk Eye-Fi 8GB / even 1st gen Eye-Fi SD in 3rd Generation or 4th Generation Adapter, without err02.
Whatever your 7D's firmware is 1.25 or 2.0, it's all working.
However, just remember one important thing, do the firmware update for the 3rd/4th Generation Adapter (not for 7D, don't be mixed up.) if you get a errCF.
If you get a 3rd/4th Gen adapter+Eye-Fi x2 working on 7D without getting errCF (not err02), then you probably can skip the firmware update for adapter.
But with same combination if you get errCF at the very beginning and cannot format the card with DSLR, then please update the firmware for the adapter.
After the firmware update, the issue can be fixed on most adapters.

submariner wrote:Q2. Can this work with the Sandisk Eye-Fi Card 4GB? - I only wanted to know as this is a cheaper version. Forgive my cynicism but so many people have said they can make it work and then one gets problems!

Yes, it also work with Sandisk Eye-Fi 4GB or 8GB. In fact, as I know, Sandisk Eye-Fi is not a cheaper version, it is actually the same with Connect X2 and Mobile X2.

submariner wrote:Q3. I am a little confused as K Hartman says he has the 4th Genertation card - so he should not have had a problem - but he did. Was this because he was on the [very recently released 24th Aug 2012] latest 7D Firmware O/S i.e. Ver. 2?

It's not related to the firmware of 7D, but related to the firmware of the 4th Generation adapter.
It possible that "K Hartman" had problem with 4th generation adapter; what he doesn't know is that the adapter also can do a firmware update to fix some issues.
(The hardware design of the adapter include a SPI Flash memory, it contains a firmware to control the adapter's controller, it also allows us to change the command by changing firmware.)
He must met the errCF issue with Eye-Fi X2; if he's still keeping the adapter, and do the firmware update for the adapter, the issue probably has been fixed right now.

As I said above, it not related to the firmware of 7D.
If you get a 3rd/4th generation adapter without any error on 7D(FW 1.25), then on 7D(FW 2.0) there probably will be no error.
If you get a 3rd/4th generation adapter with errCF issue on 7D(any FW version), please do the "firmware update for the adapter".

We will try our best to fix any issue that we found and reported by user.
However, I can tell you that most Eye-Fi compatibility issue is not related to the DSLR's firmware.
DSLR's firmware sometimes can help, but not definitely.

No one can make a statement of "Eye-Fi certified product" but EYE-FI. Let's just be patient.

Thank you.

[I realise you have stated both the 3rd and 4th generation adapters are an all new design.

There's no difference, actually they are the same product with different package design.
3rd generation adapter - package design by us(manufacturer).
4th generation adapter - package design by one of our distributor.

submariner wrote:Q2. Does the latest shipping 4th generation adapter come with the new fix for 7D firmware Ver 2.0, or do we still have to upgrade this?

Once again, it's not related to the 7D's firmware, the fix is for all 3rd/4th generaiton adapter have met errCF issue with Eye-Fi X2.
Currently all the 3rd/4th generation adapter on the market are with old firmware, no new fix installed.
If you get a 3rd/4th gen adapter and met errCF issue with Eye-Fi X2 on your DSLR, please update the firmware for the adapter.
The update tool is here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/48171385/SDCF_Gen3_AP_V3.zip
All you need for updating adapter's firmware is a Windows PC and a USB CF reader.

Thank you.

The Link on facebook of where to buy only lists ebay.com [for the USA]
Is there a supplier who sells this in the uK i.e. on ebay.co.uk or amazon UK?
Thanks
Peter

Sorry, currently I cannot find a distributor in UK.
Please consider buying from HK, their shipping fee is not so expensive.
I also have a PM for you.

Definitely!
The 3rd/4th generation adapter can support other normal SD/SDHC/SDXC, even other WIFI-SD, like FlashAir, PQI AIR Card, and so on.

Hi Phil
Got your pm and email - many thanks for superb support.
Apologies if due to timing differences in pm's and forum posts it may have seemed like I did not understand you. I understand your upgrade is not related to the 7D's firmware at all [just my incorrect speculation].
And I'm sure many buyers will feel comforted that the 3rd and 4th Gen. products are the same [i.e. they havent got an old one with outdated firmware [re the adapter].
And that if one has a Err CF then both can just be upgraded with the fix.
