Feature Request: Resend photos to Eye-Fi Center

Postby nat on Wed Jul 27, 2011 7:08 pm

Hi there,

I'm an owner of two Eye-Fi Pro X2 cards. I'd like to request that an option be added to the Eye-Fi Center desktop application to allow us to force our Eye-Fi card to resend any photos it has on it to Eye-Fi Center. I'm requesting this for two reasons:

1.) Loss of Geotag Data: Geotag information is apparently only added to the exif data when the photos are uploaded to Eye-Fi's servers (if I've gotten this wrong, please let me know). Thus if you upload photos when Eye-Fi's servers are not available, you will permanently lose the opportunity to add geotag data to your photos. There is a warning box that appears about geotagging only being applied upon upload to Eye-Fi's servers, but since I didn't realize I couldn't force my card to resend photos, I went ahead and let Eye-Fi Center upload them to Picasa, thus losing all my geotag data. A resend option would ensure that the opportunity to apply any existing geotag data is not lost permanently after the Eye-Fi card has performed its first upload.

2.) Photos "stuck" in transit. I have two photos that are permanently stuck in transit to the Eye-Fi Center application on my desktop computer. I've tried uninstalling and then reinstalling Adobe Air and then uninstalling and reinstalling the Eye-Fi Center program entirely to see if I could get them "unstuck" with no luck. I still get two black boxes showing up repeatedly in thumbnail preview in the system tray status area on my toolbar as Eye-Fi Center attempts to upload these photos again and again, failing each time. I turned off thumbnail preview since the black boxes were driving me nuts, but the Eye-Fi Center notification appearing in the task bar is still flashing, indicating that the program is still trying to upload those two stuck photos. Having the option to force our Eye-Fi cards to resend photos to Eye-Fi Center, either as a batch or, even better, individually or by date range, would allow customers to address problems with incomplete transfers by simply rewriting over these failed transfers.

Thank you very much for any consideration you can give to this request. I understand that many of your customers would not need the option, but having the ability to resend would be extremely useful for those of us who've experienced problems with that crucial initial upload to Eye-Fi Center.

:D

Yeah, I’m an EyeFi user and just love the product, I’ve even suggested to apple that maybe a remote to turn on our desktops from elsewhere in the house to make uploading a camera even easier when family are around (hence not having to go sit down in front of the computer) EyeFi automatic login function, right? Cool or what…

But that’s neither here nor there,

then after a awhile it struck me to be able to re-upload a photo from the camera, hence I joined the forum (being that I really can’t think of to much to add to this fine outstanding product) albeit I just use the file on the computer, for uploads and by pass the “center” business…

Therefore in closing, I just wanted to chime in and express my solidarity with your request; which mirrors my sentiment also,

Signed,

Sure would be nice

+1 on this. Every once in a while I get a video (only video for some reason) that gives up on the upload, and subsequently the upload to Picasa. Eye-Fi center knows it's there but tells me it failed. It would be nice if there was a way to click on it and have it retry.
