Advice for workflow with 8GB Pro X2 Card using RAW Files

Postby celluloidbacon » Sun Apr 22, 2012 11:02 pm

I was wondering whether any users out there had been able to get Pro X2 Card to work with RAW files on their iOS devices.

Do the RAW photograph display or just a RAW icon?

Will the RAW files display in the Photo App on the iOS device and add then to the photo stream?

My intended workflow is that I want to shoot RAW or RAW + JPEG format on my NEX-5 which would then wireless the transferring photos directly to the Eye-Fi app my iPad which in turn put them into my photo stream.

I would appreciate any input on suggested workflows or alternatives i.e. Shutter Snitch, etc

Thank you in advance for your assistance or ideas.

I'm in kind of the same boat. I'm using a Sony A77 to an iPad 3. The jpegs seem to come across ok but as soon as I turn my camera to RAW, I loose the WIFI connection. It's pretty weird!

Just discovered that Eye-Fi X2 Pro sends the RAW files to the "camera roll" folder of my iPad.

Unfortunately the Eye Fi software renames the RAW file (in my case NEF) to TIF. The actual format is still NEF RAW.

On the iPad the TIF file is displayed as a very small thumbnail.

If the Eye-Fi Pro software would offer an option to leave the names of the RAW files untouched I could open and work with the RAW files with an iPad App like PhotoRaw.

Why not add such an option in the Eye Fi Pro software?

I don't think Apple prioritize RAWs that much.

Their API for saving to the Photos app works well with standardized files such as JPEGs and PNGs, but all the different RAW formats sometimes make it trip up.

If you want your RAWs untouched you could buy ShutterSnitch - that'll receive from Eye-Fi cards and from there you open the files in editors that support the "Open in" feature of iOS. (Which PhotoRaw does)
