JPG previews in Low Resolution?

Postby dliu » Thu Apr 26, 2012 7:16 pm

One of the primary reasons I bought an Eyefi card (I bought the Pro X2) was so I can see full resolution previews of my images as I am taking them (so I can judge sharpness and other things). I bought a Samsung Galaxy Player 5 intending to use it as a very portable preview monitor to go along with the Eyefi. I'm wondering now if its just me or is it that idea is just not translating into reality? Its successfully sending the images to my galaxy player device, but I can only see the images in low resolution, as in the zoomed image looks like 1024 x 600, not the 4928 x 3264 resolution of the image, and I've been looking on the internet but I haven't found someone with a problem with jpgs. I use a Nikon D5100 and D90, the images are transferred from the galaxy player to the computer at the original resolution. I also have an Iphone 3gs and have used the ios app and it has the same problem.

The size of image that you want to display takes 64MB of memory. Unless the phone has that capability, we can't display it. There may be an app on the market that will do things to optimize this so when you zoom it in will show the full rez. The memory requirements are much smaller then if you cut a section out to show. We just don't have that feature in our app. In general, tablets usually are set for 256MB so can do a full rez photo, I know both Xoom and the 10.1 galaxy tab do.

Just to be clear, you phone can have 1GB of memory but the application is only given a chunk of that to use.

Cheers,
