Las Vegas McDonald's not working

Postby calcuttaman » Thu May 10, 2012 7:11 am

I'm at this McDonalds 2880 South Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas, NV

My card is not connecting to McDonald's
Also, added "Riviera_Guest" account to card and it can't connect to that. Its free and no splash screen.
Here's my log file...

hi calcuttaman.

In the card log section you posted, the card starts its built-in Direct Mode network ('AP Started "Eye-Fi Card 31306b"') but never reaches out to the hotspot. If you want to be able to upload through hotspots, at the moment it looks like you'll need to disable the Direct Mode feature on your card. To do this, connect the card to a computer running Eye-Fi Center, open the card settings, choose Networks, and select the Direct Mode tab. Un-check the box that says "When no known wi-fi networks are in range" and hit Save. The next time you are near a compatible hotspot the card should attempt to connect through it.

As I understand it, you shouldn't need to disable Direct Mode in order to connect to hotspots. I believe this is something our engineers are looking into. Since it also looks like you have used Direct Mode, I guess you'll have to choose which connection method you prefer for the time being. If you have a device with you that can receive photos directly, I'd recommend the consistency and speed of Direct Mode over the unpredictability of public hotspots.

Regarding "Riviera_Guest", it looks like the signal strength (RSSI) is usually fairly low, so I hope that moving closer to the access point will help. If not, and the network continues to give the card an IP address but fails to pass any traffic through, I would typically suspect a splash screen/MAC filtering situation on the network, so I'm not sure what to make of that. Unfortunately these issues aren't uncommon when dealing with public networks.

If you have any more trouble, please email us at support@eye.fi and attach a new card log so we can see the latest card activity.

Thanks!

That's what I thought also. In fact I've been in "Direct Mode" ever since it came out and its never affected it like this. I'm in lots of McDonald's and its *usually* never a problem.

I did disable direct mode and it connected right away to the attwifi at this problem McDonald's.

Yep, heard lots of complaints about it being slow. Its usually better in the AM. There for sure is no splash screen, its just a weak signal.
