ftp upload to private server over eye-fi servers?

Help with issues related to Eye-Fi supported Online Photosharing sites and the Eye-Fi WebShare service

Sorry, Phil, there is no way to prevent the thumbnails from being added to Eye-Fi Center or your online Eye-Fi account at http://center.eye.fi. It's a running history of your uploads. You can delete this history by right-clicking (or Control-clicking on a Mac) your card name in Eye-Fi Center and choosing to remove all items from Eye-Fi, or you can choose specific dates and delete thumbnails from there.

The requirement to upload through our servers is because of the limitations described earlier by Berend, Demetri, et al. The card can upload to our software (on one of your devices) or to our servers, but can't be programmed to support the myriad of different FTP variations out there. I don't believe it's related to the issues tellytart mentioned, though in one of those scenarios, our servers can queue the uploads until your FTP server is reachable again so I guess it's an extra benefit.

Sorry for this very 'newbie' question (I don't have a card myself yet! btw they are really hard to find here in France)...
From the discussion above I understand I can set my card in 'Direct mode', in which case whenever my tablet is around and awake the card will upload photos directly to it; I also saw elsewhere that this 'direct mode' is enabled only when no known wifi networks are available around.

Does this mean that I could prepare a setup where, when I take a photo, it is uploaded to my tablet if this comes first, but if I happen to find myself in a 'known' wifi network, without having switched on the tablet, then the card could upload the photos directly to your servers for later ftp transfer to my own ftp server?

TIA!

hello Hervé,

If you have set your tablet as the destination, the card will always try to send photos there, whether you are uploading over a wi-fi network or directly via Direct Mode. If you enable uploads to an FTP server as well, then we'll deliver your photos to both destinations. In cases where the card uploads straight to the tablet using Direct Mode, then the tablet will need to connect to the internet after this so our app can forward your photos to FTP.

If you shoot some photos and your tablet is unavailable, but there is a wi-fi network available that your Eye-Fi card knows how to connect to, then the card will try to upload through that network and deliver your photos to both FTP and your tablet. The photos can queue on our servers for a few days while we wait for your tablet to connect to the internet again so it can receive your photos.

In France, look for the SanDisk Eye-Fi cards. They are available in 4GB and 8GB capacities, and as I understand it, they have the same features as our Connect X2 and Mobile X2 cards, except they are Class 4 cards instead of Class 6. Otherwise, they both support Direct Mode, online sharing (including FTP), and our other X2 card features.

I hope this helps!

As a result of the above, I feel worth mentioning I bought my first eye-fi Sandisk card yesterday, and am already at work with auto transfers to both a macintosh, a personal ftp site and a tablet!

I still need to field-test the Direct Mode (which was my main goal to begin with), but if everything goes well this summer, I'll move all my remaining photo gear to eye-fi!

Thanks again for your help and reactivity!
Hervé

(edit) Direct Mode validated! Later this sunday we went observing stars with the tablet's planetarium. I took some photos with the Nikon, too: indeed while the planetarium did its tricks with gps and magnetics to depict us the actual stars we pointed it at, the photos were being silently loaded. At the end, setting aside the planetarium, I showed them to the audience on the very same screen they had been using for stars.
Eye-fi: my personal additional star

so that means there is No way to upload Fotos to my NAS? (192.168.1.40) (via ftp. or is there a Samba upload?)
except using port forwarding to NAS. but this would upload via Internet an is limited to 300kbyte/s.
sounds wonderfull for 350mb video files....

I have exactly the same issue.
I take about 1.6GBs on each photowalk i do, and more on parties/events.
when I get home, I would like to transfer them to my NAS, which I've enabled a FTP server.
But the current solution means the photos will be relayed on EyeFi servers and brought back to my LAN, taking too long :\
Are there any plans for LAN solutions?

For Eye-Fi uploads to remain on the local network only, you would need to set a Windows, Mac, iOS, or Android device to receive the uploads using our free software. We really only recommend setting the upload destination to a local folder, but on Windows and Mac OS you could try setting the destination to your network drive instead. As long as the NAS is always available to that computer using the exact pathname you provided, it should work.
