Time and date altered by eyefi manager upload?

Postby hungryscientist on Tue Mar 17, 2009 2:08 pm

I am currently uploading images directly to my computer. I have been using the latest eyefi manager version (2.5.1.0) and latest card firmware (just updated today, but can't find the version number) and I am seeing some strange things in my image timestamps.

Photos from the same eyefi card taken with the same camera will randomly alternate the timestamp data in the "Created" field and the "Modified" field between what my camera time date is set to, my computer time and date is set to at upload, and some completly random date and time that neither corresponds to my computer or my camera setting. This is happening for consecutive images on a single card from the same camera, which seems very strange. Does anyone know what might be the problem? Does the eyefi manager look up a date and time from anywhere else besides the camera and my computer?

This is a problem for me because I am using the time data to organize my images and having this randomness in the way date and time are recorded in the image header.

Mac OSX 10.5.6
Canon Powershot A590is
exif version 2.2

Did you ever find a fix to this problem? I am having a similar issue, but less random than yours.

The Eye-Fi Manager upload is changing the the "Date Modified" field of my pictures to an hour past what is should be. So, if I take a picture at 8:58am, the "Date Modified" field says 9:58am. The same picture read directly from the Eye-Fi card has a "Date Modified" field of 8:58am, which is what it should be.

I use Picasa, which sorts pictures by date based on the "Date Picture Taken" field, which Eye-Fi Manager records correctly. The problem comes when I upload videos. Since videos do not have any information in the "Date Picture Taken" field, Picasa defaults to reading the "Date Modified" field. Since this field is exactly one hour off, my videos do not sort correctly with my pictures, leading to a headache where I have to manually sort my videos (ugh).

Would appreciate any advice or guidance. Thanks.

As a temporary fix, there's software called jhead which reads the EXIF data from the header of a jpeg file, and does stuff with it. The "-ft" option is what you want here, to set the file time according to the header data.

I just created a little batch file and put it in my path, which looks like this:
Code: Select all
%homedrive%
cd %userprofile%
cd "my documents\my pictures\eye-fi"
jhead -ft 5**\*

Each month, I change the path digit, so it's only operating on this month's folders. This makes the run much faster. (Right now I'm editing that 5**\* to 6**\* so it works on june's folders.)

After transferring any files, I just run the batch file and it fixes all the timestamps for me.
