Eye-Fi Helper / Eye-Fi Center crashes seconds after starting

Postby txholden » Thu Apr 08, 2010 11:46 am

I have three Eye-Fi cards and I have not been able to use them with my computer for a month because the Eye-Fi Center will not stay open. I had the previous Eye-Fi Manager, which would always crash just seconds after it started. Today, I received an e-mail about the new Eye-Fi Center software, so I quickly downloaded and installed the new version hoping the problem would be fixed. However, after installing it, the new Eye-Fi Helper also crashes a few seconds after it starts. When I try to start Eye-Fi Center, it also crashes with "Ahem... Psst... We've encountered a problem. Please restart Eye-Fi Helper. Please contact Eye-Fi support with any questions."

I tried starting the Eye-Fi Center again, and this time, it says the same thing (with slightly-different wording) "Little hiccup. Hmmm... We've encountered a problem. Please restart Eye-Fi Helper. Please contact Eye-Fi support with any questions." So I do what it says -- I start the Eye-Fi Helper. It stays open long enough for me to quickly check the version number: 3.0.20.0. Right after that, Eye-Fi Helper crashes and the Eye-Fi Crash Reporter appears: "Eye-Fi Helper had a problem and crashed."

My computer: Dell, Intel Core2 Duo, 4GB RAM, Windows XP Professional w/SP3

UPDATE 4/8/2010: I got it working... sort of. See post below.

I just installed the eye-fi center this evening. It worked right after installation. Now, everytime I attempt to run it, I get an message that says boo boo alert, we have encountered a problem. Restart....

I have done this 5 times with similar error messages.

I am running a Gateway dual core with 4gb memory. I never had a problem using the web based manager.

I got it working... sort of.

I uninstalled Eye-Fi Center. Then I installed the old Eye-Fi Manager (version 2.6.12.0). Finally, I re-installed Eye-Fi Center (version 3.0). It was working -- so I opened Picasa, and I think at the same time the Eye-Fi Helper came across a .MOV file, and then it crashed. When I tried to re-start the Eye-Fi Helper, it crashed immediately.

So I did the same thing again -- uninstall Eye-Fi Center, install Eye-Fi Manager, install Eye-Fi Center, and it's working again.

I got mine working finally after a cold reboot. My Nortons firewall asked me if it was OK to allow the help program of eye-fi to access the internet. I allowed it and it now works. Looks like a problem with the install program that tests your firewall on set up.
