Web basied config? STOP THE INSANITY!!!!

Postby microimage » Wed Jul 15, 2009 7:35 pm

re: WEB based configuration - O N L Y?

I started out loving these cards.. But we now have 15 of them for our office staff. And if I have to "visit the Eye-Fi" web site one more time to do simple configuration I'm going to burn every one of them.

Is there no simple utility to do this? You have to ALWAYS visit eye.fi? If not, then this is surly a devious method for EYE.FI to CONTROL the use of their product and "harvest email addresses and customer information", IMHO

With one card, I could put up with it, maybe. But with 15? Having to use 15 email addresses and passwords just to configure a directory path and access point? Tell me that's not the only way?

If it is, ALL the cards are going back. We all don't live on the net, yet!
This could be so simple... but unless I'm completely mistaken - it isn't. Please, I would love to be proven wrong about the "configuration software method(s)".

Not to mention the two cards that the Manager & diagnostics reports "no card found". And the other one that I can't seem to associate the right email address with (my fault)... add that and a bad USB/SD adaptor - Ugh

I totally agree!
The web based configuration, and the 'uploading all your pictures to the Eye-Fi server' is totally crap! I bought the Share-card, but since it insists on uploading everything via Eye-fi server I would say this pice of equipment is totally useless.
If it could have been used on a (stand alone) LAN, just as it states on the web site, then it would have been a useful device.

It can be used on a LAN. The internet connection is only required for one time setup. After that, if you've configured your card to transfer to a local folder, there's no internet connection required and the photos never leave your LAN.

Technically, you don't need 15 different accounts for 15 cards. See http://support.eye.fi/general/how-do-i- ... i-account/ for more details.

Sorry, I've tried that. As soon as I shut down the internet connection (yet let my wLAN run like before) it stops uploading to my local folder. It's as simple as I let my entire LAN run, wLan and everything, and I unplug the ADSL that connects me to the rest of the world, and the EyeFi won't upload to my local network.

If it's not uploading when you disconnect the network then you are cutting off the DCHP server or the computer is not on the same network. I use mine over Ad-Hoc about 90% of the time, so there is no internet. Look around, or contact support, a lot of people use the cards with no internet.

Problem solved!

I had the "Relayed Transfer" enabled. When I disabled this it works on my LAN. :)
Off course, what I'd really would like was to be able to use it AdHoc, directely with a lap top, but that seems to cost big $$$....
